II Bowlers Roll First Match Today PAGE 5 The UNC-C Bowlers open their 1967-68 season today with a DIAC postal match against The College ot Charleston. As in other Postal Matches, each team will roll on its own home lanes, and send the results to a league secretary. Scoring is the same for both postal and have to face matches. For each winning game, one point is awarded, for a total of three possible points in the three games. One bonus point is also awarded for the greatest total number of pins. Thus, a team could tie a match while only winning one of the three games. League stand ing is determined by the number of points amassed over the season. There is also a face-to-face con ference tournament, which will be held at N. C. Wesleyan this March. Ibe 49’ers will have at least four face-to-face matches during the regular season, two at home, and two away. Four other matches will be conducted onapostalbasis, and it is hoped that the team will be able to travel to Wesleyan in February, in order to gain some experience on the DIAC lanes. The starting five rollers will probably be William Crenshaw, who is a returning letterman, Harry Griffin, also a letterman, Jerold Hensley, a freshman, Don ald Hudgins, a junior, and Robert Kendrick, another freshman. Rob ert Alexander, who rolled two years ago for Charlotte, and John Gaither, a returning letterman are two top contenders to break into the line-up, either as starters, or as substitutes, which are allowed in the league matches. Stephen Lee, Ronald Sides, Kurt Taube, and Eric Underwood round out the squad, to give it good depth. The team has been warming up with practice frames, and a lot of spare bowling, in which certain pin combinations are set up. Each team member has been rolling three lines on his own, plus three more at practice, which meets on Wednesdays, from 3 to 5:30. Ac- coring to Dean McKay, coach, the team has been looking real good.
