PAGE 8 THE CAROLINA JOURNAL Wednesday, December 13, 1967 Annual UNC-C Forum On International Relations Three authorities on inter national relations will participate in the third annual University Forum here March 1, 1968. The topic for the Forum will be “The University and International Relations: The Challenge of To morrow.” The three are Dr. Fred Sonder- mann, professor international re lations at the Colorado College at Colorado Springs, Colorado; Dr. Fred Warner Neal, professor of government and international re lations at the Claremont Graduate School in California; and Profes sor Lucian Pye, professor of poli tical science at Massachusetts In stitute of Technology. A fourth participant is still being sought. Two previous well received Library Handbook Has New Info The 1967-68 edition of the J. Murrey Atkins Library Hand book has been issued and is now available to students and faculty. The new edition includes much new information which has not appeared in either of the lasttwo editions of the Handbook. To il lustrate, information relating to the Library’s curriculum mater ials file and the audio-visual collection, both begun during the past year, is included. Basic information concerning the card catalog. University archives, U. S. and U. N. docu ments, periodicals, Caroliniana collection, photoduplication of library materials, and interlib rary loan is included in the Hand book. A full page is devoted to an outline of the Library of Con gress classification system, which is used in classifying all books and periodicals in the At kins Library. Examples of entries in Reader’s Guide to Periodical Lit erature and the New York Times Index are also included. Floor plans for each of the Llbary’s two floors showing loca tion of resources and facilities are reproduced on the inside covers rf the Handbook. Quotations pertinent to books and libraries are interspersed throughout the sixteen page guide to library resources and ser vices. Copies of the Handbook are available to any student or faculty member at the reference and cir culation desks in the Atkins Lib rary. Disagreement- (Continued from PAGE 7) are appropriate and in order. Indeed, my point of view, their presence is desirable and beneficial. Second, I think it is Mr. Smith’s major premise that disagreement with the faculty and/or adminis tration entails hostile sentiments or emotions. This is completely false. Students possess sufficient maturity to disagree with others, including administration and faculty, without impuning their motives. Although I do not know the faculty members and administrators Mr. Smith mentioned, I do believe they, along with others in their capacity, are deserving of his favorable comments. But since they have never been under attack by anyone I know of, then subsequently they do not need a defense, either from Mr. Smith or anyone else. Thank you. Very truly yours, Harold A. There is a real need for the nation’s intellectuals to peer over the horizon and try to understand the potential problems of tomor row. There is no denying that forewarned is forearmed,” he said. Mrs. Edyth Winningham, retired professor of political science at UNC-C, is chairman of the Uni versity Forum Council, which is composed of representatives of OPEN NIGHTS TILL 9 MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY SATURDAYS TILL 5:30 the community, the student body, the faculty, and the administra tion. Dr. Sondermann, who holds the Ph.D. from Yale, is a long-time specialist in the theories of inter national relations. He is author of a college textbook, “The Theory and Practice of International Re lations,” in addition to numerous other scholarly publications. He will discuss “The Intellectual and the Policy Maker.” Dr. Neal is a former intelli gence expert in the U. S, Sta;; Department and later a corres. pendent for the Wall Street Jout, nal.
