PAGE 2 THE CAROLINA JOURNAL, Wednesday, January 10, 1968 Talk About School Spirit... He Lost His Head .uh, Hair !! Before 1 Go ahead and blame it on the basketball team. . .It’s all their feult anyway. Mark Conrath, a sophomore from Yonkers, New York, made a bet that the UNC- C team would win in their first game against UNC-G. Although the details of the bet are not known and will never be dis closed, Mark made a deal to shave his head if the team lost. He came through, hair intact, and being the loyal manager that he is, he made the same bet on the next Lynchburg game. If you’ve seen Mark recently, it is quite ob- BY KAY WATSON vious that the team lost the game. The “job” was done by Art Gentile and Fred Jordan, “friends” of Mark’s, and they only knicked him a few times. But an application of first aid cream soothed his aching head. From that time on, he has been called almost eventing. Des criptions vary from an “albino bowling ball” to an “American hairless.” Rumor has it that a “nearsighted honeydew melon even fell in love with him.” He was given a package of Midnight Sun for a Christmas present. And he has been challenged by the White Knight who thought that he was Mr. Clean. Mark has enjoyed his new image; he says it gives him complete freedom. During his visit horn tor the Christmas holidays, nobody recognized him. This is the story of a loyal basketball team supporter. But just for the record, Mark says if he had it all to do over again (and had a full head of hair to start with), he probably wouldn’t make the bet again. . .
