Nine volumes describing the origin and activities of U. S. governments and agencies have recently been acquired by the Atkins Library. Each volume in the new series published by Frederick A. Praeger Company of New York City des cribes the origin, development, scope, operating methods, and structure of a specific federal department or agency. Agencies and departments treated in the volumes received by the library are the Alaska Railroad, Depart ment of Justice, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Agricultural Research Service, Agricultural Research Service, Federal Aviation Administration, Environmental Science Services Administration, U. S. Army, U. S. Air Force, and U. S. Marine Corps. Additional volumes describing other agencies are scheduled for publication during the next three years. The Atkins Library has a standing order to this series. ^ch volume in this series is written tor the general reader concerned with understanding the processes of the U. S. govern ment. Each contains information on career opportunities, illus trations, and a selected biblio graphy. Consulting editors tor the vol umes in the Praeger series are Ernest S. Griffith and Hugh L. Elsbree, former directors of the Legislative Reference Service, Library of Congress.
