symbol of racial pride. One inter
esting feature about the hair is
that it’s tenacious; puU it, tug
at it, and it bounces right back.
So the white man can’t keep
killing or trying to control the
Black man with guns, (his) laws
and pills. He can’t keep pretend
ing he doesn’t know what’s hap
pening or saying to himself that
he doesn’t want to get involved;
he can’t keep saying to the black
man, “some of muh best friends
are nigras”; he can’t keep saying
he “knows the problems the
colored people are having” and
then call a 60 year oldman“boy”,
but he can give it up because he’s
had it long enough. He’s had it
for himself for longer than he’d
hope. A new source of strength
has emerged from a once weak
and disgrunted people, and Black
power, the ability to perform and
produce as a Black person, syna-
mically with vigor and force has
emerged.
As it was indicated by Mr, Pat
terson, the situation is a “rift”
and is going to burst wide open '
