J-'rrold Burke Stewart Auten All Major Positions Are Hotly Contested The general elections of April 3-5 could very well be the most exciting ever since all major posi tions are hotly contested. Elec tion Committee Chairman, Joe Mc- Corkle, has announced that, “I would Tike to see the students surpass the 47% turn-out last year.” Campaign speeches will begin today at noon in the cafeteria, with voting immediately after the speeches. The polls will be loca ted adjacent to the cafeteria and will remain open until 4:30 p.m. today. He feels the office of president should be filled by an independent which will be a representative of all the students. His main interest is in the students. He would like to see the students and administration working to gether for more student authority. Mr. Burks desires more interest on the part of the students in the University and likewise that they have more voice instudentaffairs. He stated his main qualifica tion, his interest in the students. A candidate for the consolidated University Council is Juiia Lonon. Miss Lonon is a junior and is running on the Student Party ticket. She feels she is qualified for the position because of her experi ence with the students. She has been a cheerleader, and has worked on various committees. She is concerned about the apathy on campus as weil as within the University. The only incumbent running for the Consolidated University Coun cil is Larry McAfee, a junior. Mr. McAfee enjoyed this year in the office and wants to run again in order to help fulfill many of the ideas presented by the council this year. Kay Troutman, running for the student party also, is a candidate for the Consolidated University Council also. She has represen ted the students previously as sophomore representative and has also served as Miss UNC-C.
