Political Science Profs All To Travel
The Political Science Depart
ment, includli® all its four mem
bers, will be onthe go this summer
from Washington to Southeast Asia.
Sauh Brenner, a veteran of three
years at this campus, will spend
part of the summer in Washing
ton. He will be on a survey con
cerning the role of newspaper
response to Supreme Court de
decisions on attitudes rf Con
gressmen. The information com
piled from this survey will be
used ny Mr. Brenner in his doc
toral dissertation entitled, “Civil
Liberties, Newspaper Response,
and Congressional Reaction.”
This campus has awarded a grant
from the Institutional Grant for
Science to William Biglow, who
will also travel to Washington.
He wUl do research on American
foreign policy. His study is en
titled “Bay of Pigs and Cuban
MissUes: Policy Evaluation and
Organizational Learning.” In

The AprU-May issue of
the Barnstormer, the UNC-C lit
erary magazine, will be distri
buted next week by the staff. This
issue was edited by F. N. Stewart,
last year’s editor. Never fear,
Hancock fans, Jerry is alive and
,yell in Kannapolis. He’s doing
his student teaching and doesn’t
want to get involved.
This issue will feature poetry
by T. J. Reddy, Jayn Connell, and
Wayne Eason. Also included are
a pictorial essay dealing with the
44th Annual Fiddlers Convention
in Union Grove, North Carolina,
a feature on the Vietnam war by
F. N. Stewart, a meditation by
R. Theodore Smith, and illustra
tions by Walt Sherrill.
It is hopedthatthe Barnstormers
will be ready in time for the Blow-
Up.

Jim Price, president of this
year’s version of the Barn
stormers, has stated that he plans
to organize another day of festi
vities on the last day of classes.
This Spring’s outing is to be called
the Blow-up, and will feature the

Once again the focal point of the
activities will be the old bell.
And once again, Simon & Gar
funkel will not be present. EMFC
has promised to furnish enter
tainment during any quiet spells
and there is a possibility that
Phil Blundell will put in a brief
guest appearance.
Since exams beging Friday, May
17, all students are encouraged
to attend and get rid of a little
of that pre-exam rot and Spring
fever.
Gold Digger Copy Due
The Staff of the Carolina Jour
nal is presently planning to pub
lish a newsletter this summer, if
funds are forthcoming. The news
letter would contain summer-
school news, community notices,
and a brief editorial.
The 1968-1969 edition of The
Gold Digger is under preparation
and is to be completed by the end
of June. Any organization wishing
to submit copy are urged to get
it in as soon as possible. Unless

course at Smith. The two classes
will meet together on May 10
at 1:00 p.m. to discuss poverty.

information. He plans to write
an article on the basis of this
results which he hopes to pub
lish.
Mr. Biglow’s doctoral thesis
is still in progress. He has en
titled it, “Alliance For Pix^ress,
the OAS, and the Kennedy Ad
ministration.” He hopes to finish
the dissertation this summer.
Dr. Nish Jamgotch has re
ceived a University of North Caro
lina Foundation Research Grant
and has been appointed a guest
scholar at Brookings Institute.
Brookings is a research organiza
tion in Washington which speciali
zes in research in foreign and
domestic policy. His project this
summer is to ana^ze the impact
of the war in Vietnam on the
unity in the international socialist
system.
Some of the areas he plans to
investigate are the precise role
of the dispute concerning over
land routes of sullies through
China from the Soviet Union and
the dispute over quantities and
types of supplies to North Viet
nam. Dr. Jamgotch looks for
ward to publishing the findings of
this research.
Dr. Frances Stamer, who has
made three previoustrips toSouth-
east Asia in work on a book she
is now writing.will travel to Calif
ornia and then to Manila, Singa
pore, and South Vietnam this sum
mer. Her book, entitled “Asian
Solutions to Asian Problems: The
Search For Regional Coopera
tion in Southeast Asia,” will be
published some time next year.
