“This is a cut from my newest album, ‘Marlena Shaw Out of Different Bags’, which, if you run
right down to your local record shops, you can get for about $3.47. If you wait a couple
of weeks, you can get it at my house for 86c - the record, that is. ”

Marlena does, you watch.

The Club University presented
Miss Shaw Friday night in the
Parquet Room from 9:00 until
12:30 in t li e nightclub
atmosphere. Singing “Go Away
Little Boy”. Miss Shaw began an
evening of entertainment
consisting of her lovely and
original songs, occasionally spiced
by her unique wit. To quote Miss
Shaw, it was “sock-it-to-me
time!" The audience Ouctuated
from tears to laughjer as the very
vcrsatible performer sang familiar
songs such as “By The Time 1 Get
to Phoenix", “On A Clear Day",
and many light, wispy tunes.
Accompanyiirg Miss Shaw was the
very fine and celebrated musician
Lrronis McGlohon. McGlohon and
his orchestra provided a variety of
dance music between
performances.
In an interview with Miss Shaw
before her performance here, this
writer was graciously received,
and she offered information about
herself freely and frequently quite
humorously. She lives in New
Rochell, N.Y. where she began her
career singing jazz with her uncle,
who played the trumpet. Asked if
she would change her field of
music, she replied very definitely,
“No.” She said, “Jazz is just a
part of your ‘thing’.” Jazz is in
her and. as she said, if she tried to
sing anything else, the result
would have a jazz flavor to it.
She has appeared at numerous
night clubs and Playboy Clubs.
Asked if performing at a Playboy
Club is different from a night
club, she said, “No, but the first
time I sang there, I wore a dress
up to my neck and down to my
ankles-just to be different!”
beautiful. At the party, she was
poised, relaxed and forever

professional. Althougli there were
smiles and charm for the disc
jockies and distributors, Miss
