The Carolina Journal, 1969 Dr. Diament Studies Sexual Attitudes Louis Diamant By Tim Britton SEX? before or after dinner, or with, or without, or for “Premarital sex does not necessarily lead to neurosis, nor should it be treated as an indication of such. ” Dr. Louis Diamant, Clinical Psychologist, Chairman of the Psychology Dept, at U.N.C.-C., further explained that pre-marital sex is not necessarily correlated to emotional instability, and that if neurosis was observed, it was most likely existant previously, and was merely expressed by premarital sex. In further discussion. Dr. Diamant explained that if one has to attach sex to neurosis, it would be more correct to hypothesize that the repression of sex. instead of sex itself could be directly connected to a form of neurosis. When asked if he would comment on the “liberalization” of sexual attitudes. Dr. Diamant stated that he would interpret this as an indicator of the movement away from the traditional, conservative jpineville Dinner Theater I It’s “Just Fine” I By Wayne Eason I The Pineville Country Dinner 'Theatre of Charlotte is presenting |the World Premier of “Just Fine,” ,a brand new laugh riot by David ; iWiltse, thru May 4. Wlien questioned about his most recent study, centered around the sexual activity of our upper level liberal arts majors. Dr. Diamant brought out the fact that his study showed that contemporary University culture frowns on a male student with a purtanical attitude towards sex. while at the same time allowing a choice to female students. Also worthy of mention is the assertion that there seems to be more of a demand for a responsible relationship, of a more meaningtul nature before traditional values are discarded. Wlien asked his opinion of indiscriminate distribution of THE PILL. Dr. Diamant declined to comment because he didn’t teel that he was qualified to discuss the physiological aspects of continued use. He did make some pertinent comments though. One in particular dealt with his observation that the introduction of the pill, and its control by M.D.’s has set them up as guardians of our sex morals. We were in agreement, that this was certainly an interesting area of study, and quite controversial. The largest portion of research dealing with pre-marital sex is done by sociologists, but Dr. Diamant consented to an informal interview and was quite cooperative in demonstrating that he was abreast of the issues. Typical Britton (Continued from page 4) trash trash that was once in neat piles by the roadside, time has strewn all over the place. One ol the most detestable conditions ot a glietto is an almost complete lack of public service. The lack of trash collection is manifest. Only a detailed study could survey the additional lack of public services less obvious. Urban Renewal and other anti-poverty programs have good intent, but olten their implementation is uncoordinated. It will be impossible to cttectively eiadicate slum areas without careful attention to the needs of the inhabitants. Present policy is merely a transfer ol a ghetto trom one area to anothei. It is hoped that enlightened thought as well as civic involvement, coordinated with the new black voice in local politics will re-evaluate urban renewal, and immediately implement the necessary changes. jobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjobsjo jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs jobs SUMMER JOBS WE HAVE A SPECIAL JOB JUST FOR YOU!
