Student Services Student Health Service by susan cole The Student Health Service, located between the gym and the dorms, is o en 24 hours a day for the students needs. Students are »encouraged|, however, to take notice of clinic hours, Monday through Friday 9:00 am.m to 12 noon, and 2:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. The clinic is run under the leadership of Dr. Davis, a man everyone should get to know, regardless of health. If he can't help you with a problem, he knows someone who can. Minimum fees are charged for certain medicine while others are free. Following with ethical codes treatment remiand confidential.. For those students desiring birth control , contraceptives are available at the Health Center, under doctor's supervision. Although Dr. Davis does not dictate which form to use, the lUD is not available. In case of unwanted pregnancy, Planned Parenthood, located at McDowell and Independence, ahs an open abortion facility. Referal services can be arranged through the Health Services. Student Financial Service The purpose of the Student Financial Service is to provide limited banking services to UNCC students. The services provided are check-cashing and small, short-term loans. To take advantage of the check-cashing service a current UNCC identification card is required. There is a twenty dollar limit on checks, which must be made payable to "Student Financial Service". A two dollar fee is charged for all returned checks. Also, check cashing priviliges will be suspended until the bad check is either picked up or honored by the bank on which it is drawn. To use the loan service a current UNCC identification .card is required. For loans of $25.oo or less, no purpose must be disclosed but date and source of repayment must be shown. For loans In excess of $25.00 (100.00 is the maximum) the purpose of the loan must be disclosed and also must be emergency in nature. A co-signor will be required for loans greated that $25.00. The fco-signor must show, as does the aplicant, an ability to repay the loan in the event the loan is defaulted by the primarty debtor. Loans will be aproved or disaproved on the basis of ability to repay and prior record, if any, with the Student Financial Service. Couples Enrichment Group - an opportunity for couples to focus on their relationship in a small group context. Through interaction with group members, individuals will experience ways in which they enrich their relationships. Room 232 University Center Self Modification for Personal Adjustment • the course will introduce the student to principles and techniques for producing personal change. These techniques will be aplied by the student to self- selected personal characteristics. The student must be willing to discuss himself iV) a confidential small-group setting and attempt to achieve a self-modification goal. Beginning Transactional Analysis • the group will meet for VA hours per week and will provide an opportunity to aply the principles of TA to one's own personality and interactions. Murrey Atkins library (including Dalton Tower) is a facility often used by the student but rarely for its original purpose. The library is a suberb place for students to study (particularly on the tenth floor if the view of the campus does not take the student's mind off the studies), but the world's greatest center of information it is not. The student will undoubtely have to use the library at some point during his or her stay at UNCC. Therefore, it is an advantage to know where the books are located and how to understanf their unique system.. The tenth floor contains reserve books and a large study area but it can get crowded and the ninth floor serves the same purpose. It also includes information under the physical sciences, medicine, technology, military science, naval science and library science. Floor eight entertains the English majors with romance, English, American and fictional literature; Future teachers and creative arts students find themselves at home the next floor down where education books, current textbool: juvenile books, the music s fine arts sections are locateiJ.
