Page thirteen/Carolina JoumaJ/November 28, 1978 Campus Life By Nancy Davis UNCC has their own version of "Charlie's Angels" right here within the Athletic Department. They've done a reverse on names, however, and call themselves Clyde's Devils. Their cases are very special ones and upon employment were trained to do one thing and one thing only . . . keep the basket- ball players in school. Sitting in their luxurious three bedroom apart ment, I had the chance to see them in action. About 9:45 p.m., the phone rang. Immediately they switch ed the intercom on so I could join in on the conversa tion. What I heard amazed me. Clyde was on the phone with another mission. “Well, Devils, it looks like a hard one. A mysterious illness has infected one of the apart ments that houses the ballplayers. I'm afraid it's quite serious and they will be unable to finish their semester assignments. I need your help." The three of them looked at each other. Then Jell, the bouncier of the three, spoke up. “Clyde, what kind of disease? Can it be treated?" "Oh, yeah. It'll be over by at least March. But un til then, unless we have your help, we'll never be able to keep them in school. Here's the plan. Jell, you're in charge of a 15-page paper on geographic reasons for parking decks. And Bambena, you take the HDL clinical report. 1 think all you've got to do is make a collage. The hard one's for you. Salty. You’ve got to think of a good project on anything undecided." With that, they all began packing their bags, rea dying themselves for another mission. Their over night bags provided by the Athletic Office w ere stuf fed with a change of clothing, a toothbrush, a dic tionary. two signed drop/add cards and a pair of pa jamas designed after what looked like a basketball net. Mumbling and grumbling, the Devils were finally ready to go. “How can you do this?" I asked. "Don't you have your own classes to prepare for?" “Oh, sure." answered Tell. "But they try to make you feel really important and help you out when you need something ... as long as its off-season. Deep down, we know that we're doing a service for the university. These guys have a lot on their mind. They’ve got women to impress, reporters to talk to. balls to bounce." "And don't forget their disco lessons," added Bambena. "Hey, you guys," yelled Salty from the other room. Don't forget your medicine. "What medicine?" I asked. “Oh," Jell answered hesitantly, “just a prescrip tion the Athletic Department provides us to keep us from getting anything that may be going around dur ing season." the /IRT^RVED representative has a large collection of college rings Ask to see them Nov. 29. 30, Dec 1 _ 10 3 UNCC BOOKSTORE □ate Wednesday 5 7 Place Deposit required, Ask about Master Charge or Visa ‘Savings vary slightly from style to style 3 days only!
