The com mission is a five-member board that allocates the money to the University Program Board, Student Media Board and Student Body Government. As of members is much to low to be truly representative of the campus as a whole. Perhaps an 11-member board with six elected at- large members would be a more democratic and representative aoproach. Secondly, the chancellor should not have the power in how this student money is spent. The worst thing about the present SAFC is money is more than not allocated on which branch has more political pull, not taking student needs into consideration. One method of combating this is by dividing the money evenly, 33 and one-third percent for each branch, taking five percent of the original amount off the top for capital outlays. A newly formed fees com mission could oversee the allocation of the student funds and insure everything runs smoothly and efficiently. The University Program Board, Student Body Government and Student Media Board should take advisory votes to abolish the standing of SAFC and replace it with this more representative commis sion. If this is done, the present SAFC members should resign their seats until an election can be held. This is our money, we should be able to han dle it the way we see fit. Tom Chumley right now, there are three members appointed from these .different branches plus two at-large members appointed by the chancellor. to appoint any of the members of SAFC. The student activity money is paid solely by the students, and no ad ministration official should Snow leaves parking lots in mess; First off, the number of have any influence or say Lunch Special $2.00 Meat, 2 vegetables and FREE salad bar (We Now Deliver Food) causes To the Students: One of the favorite things I like to do on cam pus is write letters to you, the students, especially when it may be of benefit to you in your capacity on this campus. Several new things have come to the atten tion of the Ways and Means Committee of the Student Legislature in the past few weeks. One thing many students are con cerned about is the man ner with which the parking lots were cleaned when the university resumed operations last week. Put ting it nicely, conditions in ■ the parking areas were really bad throughout Fri day. The committee is going to discuss this with the ap propriate people in charge hazards to university travelers of this clean-up and see if some type of policy can be set up to clean off the parking areas before the university reopens. If we, as students, come to get an education at this university, we should not have to come to classes fearing some type of injury to ourselves or vehicles. If the parking lots aren't cleaned off, then there is no need to reopen the university in the first place. You will hear more about this in the future. Attention, dorm students. The committee is also going to look into a problem of potholes being in the dorm parking lots. Hopefully, these will be filled as soon as possible. One more thing that has recently risen is many students are complaining about the tightness of gym hours for free time or Limit one coupon per customer IKSTAMTSUYICi recreation for all students. Several of us plan to in- vestigate the flexibility of their schedule and see what can be done. If you have any com ments on this by all means, please send them to me. As you well know, the committee has been work ing on several things in the past. I will try to give you a quick update on some of these. Work on the student handbook is still pending. The committee is going to check with the Health Ad visory Committee and make sure we, the students, have got full representation in this area. There are two matters which I would like to see more students speak out on in the newspaper or just to others. The administration is thinking about doing away with the October break we can get. As a student representative, I will voice my opinion Ifor or against) in the same way you as students feel about these matters. I encourage you to speak out about these matters so someone will hear. Last, but not least, the committee has been working on some ways in which we in student government can better reach out to you the students. Some of the suggestions include open meetings for students around the dorm areas, possible broadcasting of meetings over the radio. When these recommenda tions are finalized you will be informed of the time and places. One last note: basket- ball season is coming to a significant time period.
