interests among the students and faculty. The paper will support
school activities on every occasion.

WELCOME
(CONTINUED FROM PAGE ))
week. If each and every member of the student body will take the
time to stop someone in the hall and introduce himself, he will be repaid
immeasurably. It should be easy to formulate friendships this first
week of school if everyone will make use of this tactic and the name
cards. Won’t you do your bit ?
These name cards aie to be given out on Wednesday and worn
that day and Thursday. For every person who wears his name card
on Thursday, there will be a special prize.
Another step in providing opportunity to make friends has been
the completion and opening of the Student Union Building. This
building is yours and it is hojied that you will take advantage of it.
If enough interest is shown, we w'ould like to have open house there
one night a week. At these open house meetings refreshments would
be served and games or other forms of diversion provided.
We have acquired a bulletin boaid which will be located near the
library door. Since the majority of classes are held on this floor,
we felt it would be appropriate to have a bulletin board near the
place where the students usually congregate. This board is for the
general use of all students, and students are urged to use it when
the need arises. Read it every day.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone back
to school. Please feel free to call on me or any member of the Student
Council whenever you need. We shall expect the same from you.
Council whenever you need to. We shall expect the same from you.
C. C. VESS, V.-Pres.

SOCIAL PLANS
The hours spent in chiss this
year at Charlotte College will,
without a doubt, be of inestimable
value in preparinj^ for the future.
However, “book learning'” is not
enough. To feel that the college
really belongs to him, each student
must become better acquainted
with his fellow students and with
the members of the faculty. It is
the sincere desire of the social
committee to make each student
feel at home, and to provide him
with an opportunity to meet and
enjoy the fellowship of students
and faculty inembers.
In participating in those affairs,
we hope that you will learn to
love our school and to feel that the
school belongs to YOU. I want
each student to feel that the Social
Committee is an instrument for his
use. I feel that it is not so much
the duty of the Social Committee
to plan and arrange social activi
ties as it is to carry out your wants
and ideas along this line. Please
feel free to make any suggestions
to the Social Committee. Members
are urgently needed to fill posi
tions on the committee. If you are
interested in any phase of the
social activities, please contact me.

TALENT NEEDED!!
An urgent call is being sent out
to each and every person at Char
lotte College for talent! A few
students have been making plans
for a talent show to be held in
Octobei'. There is only one thing
lacking—talent! We are sure that
there is talent at Charlotte Col
lege, and any volunteers for this
show will be greatly appreciated.
Donald MacDonald has consented
to help direct the show. Don writes
for The Charlotte News and is ac
tive in many musical productions
in Charlotte. He is a member of
the Charlotte Opera Association;
he had a major lead in an operetta
presented by Myers Pai'k Presby
terian Church this summer; +his
summer he was also the director,
participant, and general handy
man i a minstrel show given at
the Presbyterian Hospital Nurses’
Home. A few years ago Don was in
a show at Charlotte College similar
to the one we plan to have.
This show, which will be christ
ened “Campus Cut-ups,” will be a
great opportunity to show the cit
izens of Charlotte what we aie
capable of doing. SO COME ON
STOODENTS—let’s all chip in and
have a great show!
More information will be issued
in a few days; but if there are any
interested pi'ospects before that
time, just get in touch with John
McClure.
—JOHN McCLURE.
STUDENT UNION
BUILDING OPEN
Charlotte College now has a place
for its students to get acquainted,
refreshed, and relaxed. This place is
the Student Union Building locat
ed at the far end of the track field
directly behind the school. For your
convenience, the Student Building
will be open during the big break
and will feature cokes, sandwiches,
coffee, donuts, etc. It will also
carry a line of paper, pencils, note
jiads, and other school supplies. For
those who want to relax we have
comfortable chairs and a radio.
Here, your money will serve you
doublefold; first, it will buy you
cokes, cigarettes, etc., at the lowest
price possible; second, the profits
will be turned over to the Student
Council to be used again to your
benefit. We want this building to
become your “School Home”. We
must have the backing of the en
tire student body if we are to put
it across the w'ay we have planned.
Arthur Farley, Charles Vess, and
David Moore will be happy to talk
to anyone interested in working in
or with the Student Building. I
now cordially invite each of you
to the warm and friendly atmo-
spere of YOUR Student Building.
Come one—Come all.
DAVID MOORE.
