Page 3 THE CHARLOTTE COLLEGIAN September 23, 1954 BASKETBALL Well, it is not too early to start thinking about Basketball down here at C. C. The Owls who are interested in basketball are usually called out for practice sessions late in October. This year C. C. hopes to put a basketball team on the floor that will carry the Maroon and Gray colors highly. There is one thing that must be overcome, however, if C. C. is to put out a winning basketball team. The spirit on the squal is usually very good, but the student body has been letting the team down in the past. We all hope that everyone at C, C. will take basketball to their hearts and really support the team this year. Last year C. C. had a better than average ball club, but they always seemed to lack that one thing that brought back victories instead of tough defeats. We have a lot of boys returning to help make this year’s team a strong one. There are some new boys coming to C. C. this year that will definitely strengthen our club. If the boys that play the sport have time to get out there every night and practice, I believe that the students can find time to get out at least one night a week and watch the team in action. Let’s all bind together this year and back our basketball team every inch of the way. —Kilgo. Regarding Kisses—Lord! I won der what fool it was that first in vented kissing.—Johnathan Swift. OUR FACULTY We of Charlotte College should be very proud of our teachers. For such a small College we have a very good, if not the best selec tion of teachers. These teachers even though they are very busy and have very little time to spare will help in any way they can to save a person from failing, provid ed the person helps himself, too. Besides helping others and teaching, some of these teachers are advisors and some are busi nessmen. Take for instance Dr. Pierre Macy, one of our most celebrated teachers, is a graduate of the Uni versity of Paris. He teaches French, is part owner of a dry cleaners, and is Assembly Advisor, and Mrs. Edyth W'inningham, is student Council advisor. She has been very helpful and has kept the Student Council on their toes so far and we hope she will do the same in the future. Miss Mary Denny, our Charlotte Collegian advisor, is always in the background pushing the paper staff to get the paper out. Miss Denny, by the way, is our English instructor. Miss Bonnie Cone, Director of Charlotte College is Finance ad visor. She also keeps all the stu dents on the straight and narrow path. Dr. Heck teaches all of the sciences at Charlotte College and loves to go on field trips. He is also Social Advisor. Dr. Earl Mc- Colley, Chemistry teacher, is also head Chemist at Celanese. Also sincerest thanks to Stanley Drug Store for such a fine spot. COQNtCOFFEY SIGMA LAMBDA CHI Charlotte College’s only social fraternity, Sigma Lambda Chi, in vites all young men who are in terested to join our group during the first quarter. Sigma Lambda Chi was organ ized quite a few years ago at C. C. and has been a very active group of men since. The fraternity tries to give a $100 scholarship to a freshman each year for tuition for the next year. During the school year 1953-1954, the fraternity awarded Louella Robinson $75 for an outstanding theme she wrote as part of the requirements for re ceiving the rew'ard. This year many plans have been made and we hope we will have the largest number of pledges ever, and the best year ever. Join and be a part of some history-making achievements. Announcements will be made later regarding the membership drive. —Jim Brady. A female motorist came tootling merrily down the wrong lane of a crowded thoroughfare and ran smack into Mr. Jordan’s brand new convertible. While they were un tangling bumpers, the lady said grudingly: “I’m afraid this was largely your fault.” “Nonsense,” said Mr. Jordan with a gallant bow. “I assure you the blame rests entirely with me. I saw you fully three blocks away and had ample time to dart down a side street.” What they want is Coke Colre'* is o registered frade-mork.
