Although we have had some volunteers, we are still short of help. The past editors have expressed a feeling that one of the most difficult problems which faces our publications is the lack of interest and co-operation in the organization of our newspaper staff. Only with the assistance and back ing of the students will we be assured of a successful year. It is a common fact that if a large number of people each do a small portion of the work, then the burden is held to a minimum. Almost the entire student body at C. C. work at a regular job. We realize that some of our students cannot afford the time to give to the publications. On the other hand we are sure that there are a great number of the students who can give some of their spare time to the newspaper. The Collegian has posts open as Assistant Editor, Circulation Manager, Sports Editor, and Social Editor. The newspaper and also the annual need a photographer. If anyone is qualified and would like the job he should contact some member of the newspaper or annual staffs. The paper also needs students who are interested in reporting happenings around the school and community. You have paid for the Collegian, why not make it a good paper? Justin Hendrix SPANISH CLUB The Charlotte College Spanish club, under the direction of our more than able Spanish teacher, Mrs. Hoyle, has in the past been a big success. The club was formed on the basis that the students could obtain a greater interest about the “south of the border” language through participation in such an organization. The club held various meetings at which guests were invited to ex plain the traditions, customs, and language, to the members of the club. There was always a good crowd on hand to witness the fun. Most of the credit for making the club a success should go to Ralph Abercrombie and to Mrs. Hoyle. Good wholesome fun and excellent refreshments were on the menu at each meeting. The highlight of the year was the presentation of a play based on an American in a strictly Spanish speaking country. Lacy Saunders stole the show with his wonderful part. Only Spanish Club members starred in the play, and for but a few miscues the play was a very big success. The 54-55 Spanish Club was a wonderful experience for everyone who participated in its activities. We should be seeing some new faces at the meetings this year. Here’s hoping that the club will continue along the path made last year. This column wants to ex press its admiration to Mrs. Hoyle and all the members on a job well done. Let’s hope that the future will look as bright as the past. GOSSIP Here we are again with the latest news from the halls of Charlotte College. The news for this column is gotten right off the heating pipes and any resemblance to the truth is truly an accident. If you have any complaints don’t call us—we’ll call you. Getting serious for a minute, we would like to welcome all the new students to Charlotte College. We hope you will like it here at C. C. and if we can help you in any way just let one of the old students know and we will do our best. Now for a bit of gossip about some really fine people. Bill Reid and his wife had a large part in making the Student Council’s party for our foreign guests a grand success. Mrs. Reid, so I hear, is a very nice person and a wonderful conversationalist. She also took the T. V. set out from under our noses when the Marine Captain won $()4,000. Martha Voyles has been advising the new students and from what we hear she has got a number of fel lows spell bound. Joanne Hovis has her eyes on a certain Wake Forest student. The pipes have it that she may be hear ing wedding bells soon. The French girls had landed the other night at Freedom Park and the situation w'as well under con trol. The boys have decided to pour all the milk down the drain if that is what wine will do for the fair sex. Darrell Avery and Johnny Culp are terrors with the women. If you don’t believe it just ask them and they will tell you. Ralph Abercrombie will install stoves in his spare time for a small fee. We won’t guarantee that the stoves will work, but at least Ralph will try. Barbara Duckworth and Ann Padgett are two of the new girls. They are real cute, aren’t they? Sorry, boys, but we can’t give phone numbers. There are so many new people walking around the halls of C. C. that we can’t even begin to get all the Juisy stories that will emerge. We certainly are relieved to see some of the fresh-out-of- high-school boys around. Maybe we will get some fresh gossip. If anyone has access to any eye brow raising stories, they will be appreciated. If they are not suit able for print they will still be ap preciated even if they are only for my own enjoyment. Well man, I guess that is all the room we can spare for this column so here is hoping that everyone is still my enemy. If you didn’t get on the list of enemies this time, maybe you will make it next time.
