THE CHARLOTTE COLLEGIAN

CHEERLEADERS
This year when Charlotte College
fields its basketball team, the team
will be accompanied by cheer
leaders. The Owls will be backed
by five beautiful lassies as they
trot on the floor for their first
home game. This is a brand-new
idea at C. C. and we hope it will
revolutionize the basketball team
and will lend them a little more
splendor.
These girls should be commended
for the time they are giving to the
team and to Charlotte College. They
are getting absolutely nothing for
their w’ork except the enjoyment
they will get out of it. We, the
students, can make their jobs much
easier by being in the stands and
shouting with them. Can you imag
ine cheerleaders without anyone to
cheer with? Well, if you can then
I'm sure you will be at the games.
There were a few' qualifications
required for the job. First of all
the girls had to want to do the job.
Second, they had to have good
enough grades. And third, they had
to have or make the time it will
take.
The Cheerleaders are: Barbara
Duckworth, Gwen Daly, Nancy
Fisher, Pat Kendricks, and .Johnsie
Creene.
THANKSGIVING ASSEMBLY
The Thanksgiving season has al
ready come and gone and I'm sure
no one will forget it. This was the
time of year that everyone should
have thanked God for all the things
that He has given us.
C. C. did their part during the
Thanksgiving season by presenting
an assembly to put us in a real
Thanksgiving mood. ,John Scroggs
did a wonderful job of instilling
within the students a wonderfully
thankful mood.
Mr. Scroggs presented a narra
tive story about all the things that
we should be thankful for. Gwen
Daly wrote the material and other
students helped in the scenes.
Bill Reid sang for the assembly
and did a fine job. The sorority
also took up a donation to buy food
for some needy families here in
Charlotte.
Let’s give Mr. Scroggs and his
committee a big hand for such a
fine and enjoyable assem.bly.

thing about rocks and know there
are no such rocks as we mentioned,

C.C. HEARS FROM
FORMER STUDENT
Glenn Keever, now stationed in
■Japan with the U. S. Army, has
written to Miss Cone expressing
his w'ishes to attend the University
of North Carolina. Glenn is a
formei’ stuflent of C. C. and also
a former editor of the Charlotte
Collegian. Mr. Keever expects to
l)e out of the service by the Fall
quarter of next year and hopes to
enter school at that time. Glenn
has asked for information pertain
ing to transferring his grades.
Glenn expressed that the Army
is not satisfactory and he longs to
be back at home. “Still,” he said,
“I’ve seen a lot of country and have
met different people. Even this far
away I’ve been able to keep up
with doings at Charlotte College
and I’m proud of the progress she
has made.”
Glenn is remembered at C. C. as
being one of our finer students
and also as the editor of the Col
legian. We want to wish Glenn all
the luck in the w’orld and hope to
see him in the future.
RECORD ROUND-UP
Well, hi there; and here we go
with some more of the more pop
ular tunes of the day. Man, there
are some smooth hits making the
rounds through the country. Here
we go.
Dean Martin now has a new' tune
that takes this fellow’s vote as
being the coolest disc that has
appeared on the market in the past
few' weeks. It’s going like hot-fire
in every music store and should
stay around the top for a while to
come. “Memories Are Made of
This” should sell a million for Dean.
If you have heard this song, you
will probably agree with me that
the background music gives it
some great rhythm. If Dean keeps
singing like this he can do without
Jerry. By the way, it’s on a Capitol
label.
The McGuire sisters are still in
the lime-light with their disc of
“He.” The McGuires also have
another record on a Coral label
that is going like mad. “Give Me
Love” is the record of which we
are speaking. In addition to their
singing ability, they are also good
looking.
“Only You,” a Mercury record
ing, has put the Platters among the
top artists of the day. This record
is not only sensational in the R & B
field, but is also making a land
slide in the “pop” music market.
“Black Denom Trousers and
Motorcycle Boots,” by the Cheers
and backed by Lex Baxter, is still
going strong. “Love is a Many
Splendored Thing,” “Suddenly
There’s a Valley,” and “Moments to
Rememl)er” are still selling like
hot-cakes.
Mitch Miller and the chorus must
not be over-looked among the top
recorders of the day. “Bonnie Blue
Gal” is a cute little ditty and rates
near the top in this column. I hope
Mitch keeps up the good work.
There are some great new records
that have just come into the scene.
“Love and Marriage,” b.v Eddie
Fisher, is only one of our prog
nostications for a hit tune. “Croce
Di Oro” will probably be up near
the top in a few more weeks also.
King Cole, the old maestro, has
a soft and dreamy waxing in
“Someone You Love.” The King is
sure making it rough on some of
the younger singers.
Well, I had better say good-by
for now'. Don’t forget to be at the
Christmas Dance. Here’s w'ishing
everyone a cool Yule and a frantic
first.
COLLEGIAN REPORT
The Charlotte Collegian is happy
to announce that it has published
its third issue and has come within
its budget. The Winter quarter will
bring tw'o more issues of the Col
legian. We hope that you have en
joyed this paper.

We believe in the stuff we are handing out, in the firm we are
working for, and in our ability to get results. We believe
that honest stuff can be passed out to honest men by honest
methods. We believe in working, not weeping; in boosting, not
knocking; and in the pleasure of our job. We believe that a man
gets what he goes after, that one deed done today is worth two
deeds tomorrow, and that no man is down and out until he has
lost faith in himself. We believe in today and the work we are
doing, in tomorrow and the work we hope to do, and in the sure
reward which the future holds. We believe in courtesy, in kind
ness, in generosity, in good cheer, in friendships, and in honest
competition. We believe that there is something doing, some
where, for every man ready to do it. We believe we are ready-
right now.
