Visit THE OWL'S ROOST COFFEE — SANDWICHES COKES — CRACKERS CANDY — SCHOOL SUPPLIES RECORD ROUND-UP Well, here we are atrain with the tops ill tunes for the last few weeks. The music is fine so come on in and join us while we see what platters are leading- the country in popularity. It seems as if the Rhythm and Blues field has practically elimi nated any competition from the smooth vocal arrangements of the old days. There are a few excep tions to the rule, however, such as Nelson Riddle and orchestra and a few other band leaders who have made their way on instru mental arrangements. Modern jazz is also becoming a thing of the ]>resent and is gaining in populari ty all through the country. In the R & B field we see that artists such as Little Richard, Fat.s Domino, and Ruth Brown are hit ting the top spots on record sales these days. One reason for the popularity for this type of disc around Charlotte is because of the Rhythm and Blues shows being presented at the Coliseum. A new platter has skyrocketed over the air-ways and on the juke boxes during the past few days. “The Rock Island Line” by Lonnie Donnigan is a really cool record ing on a London label. This type recording is totally different from the standards of the month. It has a combination of hillbilly, R & B and popular sounds mixed to give the tune a very interesting ar rangement. We forecast that it will go straight to the top. “Mr. Wonderful,” taken from a Broadway musical by the .same We believe in the .stuff we are handing out, in the firm we are working for, and in our ability to get results. We believe that honest stuff can be passed out to honest men by honest methods. We believe in working, not weeping; in boosting, not knocking; and in the pleasure of our job. We believe that a man gets what he goes after, that one deed done today is worth two deeds tomorrow, and that no man is down and out until he has lost faith in himself. We believe in today and the work we are doing, in tomorrow and the w’ork we hope to do, and in the sure reward which the future holds. We believe in courtesy, in kind ness, in generosity, in good cheer, in friendships, and in honest competition. We believe that there is something doing, some where, for every man ready to do it. We believe we are ready right now. PLAZA MOTOR CO. 401 HAWTHORNE LANE United Motor Service; Auto Lite Parts and Service; Special Carburetors; Delco Remy Parts and Ignition Service; Carter Corburetor Service; Stromberg Ports and Service; Tune-Up Service; Major Overhaul Service ^1 name, and the theme song of "The Man With the (lolden Arm” are really hot. These waxings have everything to insure their popu larity and sales for quite a while to come. There is one musical arrange ment that never seems to get talked about but which is very out standing everywhere in the coun try. We’re talking about that “one more time record,” “April in Paris.” If you haven’t heard it and have a chance to listen for a few minutes, we recommend that you enjoy yourself and relax to the tune of this great old standard. We want to remind all you music lovers to be on hand when C.C. presents the Nocturnes at our next dance. This group specializes in anything from waltzes to rock and roll. We are sure that you will enjoy every minute of it. That’s all for now, but we’ll be seeing you next month with some more information on the top tunes of the nation. Good • E6. Ut. MT. Off.
