Poge 3 THE CHARLOTTE COLLEGIAN Moy, 1956 DANCE TO BE PRESENTED SOON The Charlotte College Social Committee has announced that plans are now in progress as to the dance to be presented May li)th at the Klks Club in Charlotte. The committee voiced its opmion that this dance is to be one of the best ever presented by the students of Charlotte College. The dance will top-off the social schedule for the year and will be the year’s biggest and best social event. The comniitte has picked one of the best combos in this section to make the music while the lights are low. The Nocturnes featuring Loonis McGlohon on the piano can give you that Latin swing, the American hop, and the European waltz. This versatile group has played with such famous bandland names as the great Tommy Dorsey, the unforgettable Glenn Miller, Claude Thornhill, and the ever-popular Sauter-Finnegan orchestra. The Nocturnes are presently in their third season with WHTV. The popular show “Nocturne” is presented weekly and features the entire group. Along with Loonis McGlohon there is Earl Blankenship on the drums, Creighton Spivey, l>ass, Jim Stark and his vibraharp and trombone, and Bill Hodges one of the nation’s best trumpet men. This group has a very fine background and is sure to give us some down-to-earth good music. If your specialty is dixieland, modern jazz, pop ballads, hip-swinging Latin numbers, or a good high-stepping waltz, come to the dance and you will hear it. The Nocturnes have all these dif ferent arrangements at their fingertips and will be playing them on May 19th. Make sure you reserve this night for the last night of the year. If you have not attended any of these dances you are in for a big thrill. Oh yes, for you guys who like a good vocalist to set the evening right, you will be entertained by Delores Henson. And for you dolls there is the very fine voice of Joe Purkey who also plays Harmonica. So you see that this is to be a very special evening. The dress will be semi-formal so that no trouble is involved there. All arrangements have been mad? for you; all you have to do is to be there. Now that summer weather is pecking its head through the gloomy wintry sky, we should be hearing some gay tunes which will place us in that wonderful spring time mood. Speaking of moods, I’eggy Lee is handing out a great deal of mood music to the public and topping off her soothing voice with one of the hits of the day, “Mr. Wonderful”. Let’s see what else is being sung around the coun try. The big hit of the month and one surely to rise in popularity is the theme song from the motion picture I'icinc. By now you know the disc of which we are speaking, “Moon- glow” what else? This waxing has the beat of a piano and a background of stringed instru ments. They combine to soothe the heart of every savage beast. We’ll be hearing a lot more of this re cording. Another disc which should l)e classified in the same group is the theme song of The Man with the Golden Ann. This record is also enjoying worlds of popularity. We want to make a prediction aliout here so hold on to your hats. We predict that p]lvis Pressley will be fading from the limelight in the next few month. There has been a multitude of varied opinion con cerning this fellow’s unorthodox style. The younger recording en thusiasts seem to live on this type of music and the older “music lovers” are faced with the opposite reaction. Well anyway, we’re going to stick our necks out and say that you’ll probably be hearing less of him in the future. We believe in the stuff we are handing out, in the firm we are working for, and in our ability to get results. We believe that honest stuff can be passed out to honest men by honest methods. We believe in working, not weeping; in boosting, not knocking; and in the pleasure of our job. We believe that a man gets what he goes after, that one deed done today is worth two deeds tomorrow, and that no man is down and out until he has lost faith in himself. We believe in today and the work we are doing, in tomorrow and the work we hope to do, and in the sure reward which the future holds. We believe in courtesy, in kind ness, in generosity, in good cheer, in friendships, and in honest competition. We believe that there is something doing, some where, for every man ready to do it. We believe we are ready right now. Such vo calists as Fats Domino, Little Rich- ai'd and many others will probably be bringing down the housetops with some of their fabulous discs. Have you noticed that Doris Day hasn’t been producing any records in the past few months? We were wondering what has become of one of the best voices in the recording world. We hope she didn’t lose her talent! There has been a great deal of comment lately about the Rock and Roll shows being presented at the Coliseum. If you would like to keep up to date on this subject, read the editorial pages of both of the cities newspapers. We’ve just about wrap])ed it up for another month o n Record Round-Up and we’ve not got enough space allotted to us to cover all the recordings out today. Re member the dance which will be coming soon. You will hear some of the top music of the land being played by some of the top musi cians. So long for now and remem ber, KEEP SINGING.
