The C. C. Handbook is no onger merely the “Students’ landbook for 1958-’5i)'"—a title A-hich causes any but the most in veterate bibliophile to shudder with houg-hts of ‘‘a dry documentation jf the various personnel and activ- ties and a somber dissertation on school regulations and student hon or”—but is now “What’s What” at Charlotte College, sporting a catchy jlue and white cover design. 'I’he cover isn't all that's changed, [hough. Other major changes in- •lude the entire printing of the new school constitution, a short state ment entitled “A Word to the Wise," “Words of Wisdom,” some friendly rt minders to the students, and the printing of our new Alma Mater composed by Hill Reid. Miss Lorna Byers, head of the Student Council Handbook Com mittee, said that she and her com mittee believe that “What’s What” is a real advance toward the ideal I student handbook—one which is 1 attractive, informative, informal, I and yet official. A late-sumnier swimming party was held August !) by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Fraternity as a w'el- coming gesture for four new mem bers. These initiates—Margaret Fisher, .lames Mahaffee, Fred Collins, .Jr., and John Sherrill Proctor- -joined the rest of the Phi Thets as guests of the parents of New Students Invited To Visit Owl's Roost New students at Charlotte Col lege will be interested in visiting the Owl’s Koost, a snack bar for C. C. students and faculty members. The Roost is manned by a student manager, who is selected by the Student Council at the beginning of the year. The manager enlists the help of anyone he wishes to work with him in the enterprise. The Owl’s Roost personnel are paid w'ith fifty per cent of the prof its, and the other half forms an added source of revenue for the Student Government. The Roost is located on the sec ond floor of the Central High School building, at the east end, near the auditorium entrance. On sale there are sandwiches, soft drinks, used books, and school sup plies. It is open evenings during the six-o’clock break. FIRST UNION NATIONAL BANK OF NORTH CAROLINA F.A.C. Gets Briefing Mr. Proctor at their summer cabin | on the Catawba River. The initiation ceremony for the new members had taken place on the preceding Sunday (August 3) at the eCollege. A brief business meeting followed the ceremony, and the group laid plans for the river gathering. Following a pleasant afternoon of swimming and boating, the mem bers paused at dusk for an outdoor supper with hamburgers broiled ove rcharcoal and hickory fires. Miss Mary Denny, faculty advisor to Phi Theta Kappa, took part in the preparation and serving of re freshments. Wives and children of members were present at the outing. Mr. and Mrs. Proctor assisted in enter taining the guests. Phi Theta Kappa is a national honor fraternity for junior college students. Membership is by invita tion. and selection of new members is based upon academic achieve ment and contributions to the school. The name of the ('harlotte College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa is Iota Lamlnla. Bookstore Moved Upstairs Charlotte College students who look for the bookstore this fall may be surprised to notice that it is no longer located in the downstairs corridor of the new building. This area has been remodeled to provide office s))ace for Dr. Herbert Lynch of the N. C. State College program and for Miss Ruth Raney of the Business Education Depart ment. Heretofore, Msis Raney’s office has been accessible only through one of the classrooms. The new location for the book store is in the upstairs corridor of the new building, directly above the former location.
