and parties. They are sincere, we
believe, and tha.y have, under riqhts
their own, to believe in and support

While this is true, we should not
forget to accord to every man this
fight and privilege without im
peaching his honor and sincerity.
We surely have not gone so far
from the recognition of the rights
given us, that matters of public in
terest cannot be discussed and dis

By previous announcement, a
nviss meeting of the citizens of the
county was held in the court house
today. All were welcome.
The meeting was called to order
by Capt. J. M. W. Alexander, and
aEtl Mr. W. II. Hegkr acted secre
tary. There were between 200 and
350 in the court room.
The ticket made at Omaha, July
4th, was endorsed by the riding of
the majority of those present.
Speeches were made by Messrs.
C. M. McDonald, Chas. Sapp, G. Ed
Keistler, Watt Barringer, William
Junker, Ambrose Tlileman and J.
B. White. Col. Means was called

The matter of bringing out a
Third Party State ticket wa3 voted
on, the vote being as follows; 53 for,
-11 against. Many had gone out

Miss Julia Shirey, daughter of
President Shirey, of North Carolina
College,-Mt. Pleasant, N. C, after a
ickness of typhoid fevsr for three
or more weeks, passed away Friday
evening at 3:10.
Miss Shirey was a lady of letters,
ecoguized as being a young woman
f very euperior intellect and of
plenelid attainments. As a teacher,
