Burned to Heath-
Ellsworth, Wis J Jan. 1. Yester
day morning at ai early hour, the
residence of Michiiel O'Connell, of
El Paso, was consumed by fire, and
Mrs. O'Connell and five children
nerisbed iu the tlaines. Mr. O'Con-
uell was the only member of the
family who slept below. About 2
o'clock he was awakened by the lire
and barely escaped from the builds
ing in his night clothes. As he
rushed out his wife appeared at an
upper window and dropped the
youngest child into his arms. Ke

Birmingham, Ala , Jan. 1. Pat
rick Wallace, a miner at Pratt City,
"was murdered in a saloon at that
place tonight by Wm. Blount, also a
miner. Both wsre white men. The
trouble was over a glass of beer that
Wallace was about to drinK, It en
tered his heart, killing him instant
ly. Blount, after ffring the fatal
shot, took a seat, filled his pipe, lit
it and deliberately walked out of the
saloon to his home, a mile and a
lialf distant, where he was captured
by City Marshal Phillips. He did
not resist arrest. The murdered
man leaves a wife and eight chil
dren, the oldest child being only 13
Blount is 2S years of age and has
been married only six months. He
is now safely lodged in jail,

Train Robbery in Alabama.
Birmingham, Ala., Jan. A
special to the Age Herald from
'ork, Ala , says : The southbound
Alabama Great Southern passenger
train, due here at 8:30 o'clock was
held up about three miles ivorth of
here and the express car robbed. A
passenger on the train reports that
there were only two robbers. Noth
ing wa3 disturbed but the express
car, the passengers not being molest
ed. The amount secured is not
known. Tne authorities have sent
for dogs, but it is thought it will be
to late to apprehend the robbers.
