C, in paying a iaat; tribute to the
memory of the late J W Burkhead,
wish to bear testimony to his Chris

usefulness in church and com

whom he spent the whole of his life,
was conspicuous for its uprightness
and integrity, being built upon the
solid principles of truth, justice and

His piety, while hot conspiciuons,
was all pervading, directing and con

his everyday life. ,

the Legislature today. He recom

pass a law gi?ing the family of a
person taken from' officers and
lynched the right to sue the county
for the full value of his life. It also
asks that the Goyernor be authorized

A Mean SXan's Device.
A crab's pincers operate ordinarily
when touched by any foreign sub
stances, and they are tight squeezers.
One night recently the meanest rnn
in the world procured some crabs
and tied them up in a paper. JBe
reached home at midnight, and in
the qui.te of the parlor undid the
package, and then emptied the crea
tures into his' trousers pockets.
Soon all; was quiet in the bed
room, and be successfully counter
feited his accustomedf snore. Then
the partner of his y bosom quietly
arose and proceeded to do some bank
ing business with his trousers, which
hung on their usual peg.
It is said that "Freedom shrieked
when Kosciusko fell." Well, if she
that nine-tentlis . of my troubles were
caused by constipation, I began the use
'of Ayer's Pills, with the most satisfac
tory results,, never having a single
attack that did not readily yield to this ;
remedy. My wife, who had been ah,
invalid for years, also began to. use
Ayer's Pills, and her health was quickly
restored. With my children I had no-1
ticed that nearly all their ailments were
preceded by constipation, and I soon
had the pleasure of knowing that with,
children as with parents, Ayer's Pills,
if taken in season, avert all danger of
sicknessV ' -H. "Wettstein, Byron, 111.
