Shelby Aurora: Rev. Dr. J D
Hufham, of Shelby, accompanied by
Revs. Webb, Limrick and Hawkine,
went ia3t Friday to Lincoln county,
according to agreement, to meet in
debate Prof. Derraon, of Hickory.
They discussed baptism and infant
saha'ion. The debators were Rev.
!V. J D Hufiam and Prof, Der
mon, each spoke at first 30 minutes,
then a rejoinder of 20 minutes each.
The large crowd erjojed the battle
about church doctrine. One Metho
dist, Rev. Carpenter was present as
"a looker on," at Carpenter's school
house in Lincoln county. The de
bate was fair, uninterrupted and
without personalities or strife, and
the preliminaries of the contest were
arranged by Rev. G M Webb. A
Biptist church was organized there
the night before tbe debate.
A Itf!inlt Requirement,

produced by a very small tiansposi
tion of words and ideas is illustrated
by this slightly "mixed" instruction
recently given by an officer at drill
to a company of men :
"When I give the command 'halt!'
you will bring the foot which is on
the ground to the side of the one
which is in the air, and remain mo
l'littliipr Nliaftsto ll.
Mr. Harry Fryling this morning
b gan the work of attaching shafts
to and otherwise recoustructing the
big reel. A high scat will be placed
oyer the reel for the driver and a
attp attacked to the back that will
hold several firemen. This equip
ment has long since been needed and
in case of fire will prove of great
advantage to tb firemen.
