M Ills dons SfrearTnBnee: and v' Aikluson Offers $500 Reward. :- Pubho sentiment in Montgomery county, Ga., where the lynching of Prof. Perdue, formerly of Charlotte, occurred several days ago, is be comiri g stronger i each day j against the lynchers.- Gov. Atkinson has offered a reward of $500 for the first party convicted of being implicated in the lynching of Perdue. A . dis patch irom Mt. Vernon says: The lynching of Prof. Perdue last Fri day night has thrown the people of this county in a state of great ex citement. That the act was wanton and barbarous is evidenced' by the inhuman treatment and the horrible indignities to which the aged school teacher was subjected. It is learned that the authorities are getting clues implicating several white men and negroes, and are obtaining evidence to bring them before, the grand jury, which convenes on December 9th. A strange circumstance connected with the affair is that durirg the in- carceration of the professor he de sired a guard, fearing danger. The request was granted, and a dog way also placed in the jail. lt is said that a few days before the lynching the guard and. the dog were re1- moved. At any rate, tne good peo ple of Montgomery, who abhor mob violence, demand a rigid investiga tion, and wantSthe perpetrators of the fiendish lynching brought to justice, . x- ' The professor's sons say that they are not going to rest until their father's death is avenged.
