The distinguished educator and

He was the authorof the" familiar

the College is on a firm basis. Al

gained!aide reputation, and with

port which Charlotte promises, the
Collage,' wnich Z is the Seminary
xtlty and far superior facilities, bids
fair to be a moat successful and
useful institution. For the first
year its management has been en
trusted to Miss Long and Mr. Tins
ley P Junkin, formerly of Colum
bia, S. C.
The design of the College is to
fu.nish younc: women a thorough
and practical education on such
reasonable terms as to bring it
within the reacb of all, however
limited ther means. The rates
charged are only intended t to cover
the actual cost. Let it be distinctly
understood, however, that though
cheapness in cost is one peculiarity,
cheapness does not exist in the quaU
ity of work done or the accommo
dations furnished. I
It seems that a wrong idea as to
the costs of this institution has
gone abroad. Board alone, includ
ing light and heat, is only $10.00 a
month, or $100 for tne 3 ear. Board
and tuition $150, which is from
$50 to $100 less than any high
grade college in the South. " 1

Malarial germs are beginning to
disport in this vicinity.
A watermelon m weighing .nearly
severity-five pounds was v brought
here by merchant B L Robinson.
It was produced in the Catawba
valley, r : : ," y.'v '
i Some days ago there was a severe
jar" in a colored family living
pear yak tfrove. In the resultant
fracas, the: ireful husband knocked
out a tooth from the masticating
department of his better ihalf.
Whether this act removed any of
the woman's "jaw," we can not say.
Becoming alarmed by fear of legal
prosecution the man fled from the
wrath to come. He is still : an ab
sconding husband. Augustine. '
