Still Under the Pcirer of Conscience. There is something good in every man, some redeeming trait 'of character and at seme time in his life he does something which commends him to mankind. There is not a man so low in the moral scale, but has his "good trait," and on the other hand, there is not one so good, that he has not somewhere a streak of meanness about him. Now, here is the case of Charles O Sum mers, who stole five thousand dollars from the Southern Ex press Co. Summers was sent to the Mississippi penitentiary for five years for that robbery and escaped after serving one year of the sentence. On last Friday he returned voluntarily' and gave himself up to the authorities, paid the Southern Express Co. the amount of money he had stolen and offered to pay to the State of Mississippi the expense of his conviction and ay into the treasury the amount of money the State had spent in efforts to capture him. Summers gives as reason for his surrender that he lived continually in fear of being capturred, and pref ered to settle his account with the law and relieve his apprehension. Since his escape he has traveled over a good portion of the civ ilized globe having only recently returned from the Klondike. Monroe Enquirer.
