Beginning at Ocracoke Inlet this stretch of sand reaches to BOgue Inlet, terminating at Shackelford's Point, in front of the town of Beaufort. Shackelford's Banks is almost forty miles long, low lying, with here and there dunes or sand bills rising ; Id a height of, say, j forty feet, tree covered., The trees, loaded with vines, and in when the relief from Eognd was so long delayed in reaching them, went with the Indians to the mainland, bat most have left the ponies.
