Aug. 22. —Beautiful in its simplicity was the wedding of Miss Kffie Cooper, of China Grove, and Khesa Newlin, of Guilford College, which was solemnized Tuesday morn ing at 8 o eloek in SaiflT Mark s Luth eran Church. Preceding the ceremony, Miss Myrtle Cooper, sister of the bride, sang "Be cause.” following tliis two splendid solos were well rendered by Cephas Lippard. of Statesville, entitled "Constancy” and "At pawning.” They were accompa nied at the piano by Mrs. 11. F. Cooper, of High Point. To the tirst strains of the wedding march from I»henbrin Miss Mary Coop er. as maid of honor, entered the main aisle. At tlfe same time Burdett Trott, ’of Winston-Salem.* entered the altar. The maid of honor was prettily costumed in honey dew georgette over peach taf feta, wearing a picture hat of black vel vet. carrying a basket of sweet peas of various color. Little Elizabeth Cooper and Master David Cooper, nett entered as flower girl and ring bearer, respectively. The bride entered with her sister. Mrs. F. B. Liugle, of Spencer, as dame of honor, who was beautiful in her costume of black lace over lavender taffeta and picture hat of black velvet, carrying a basket of variously colored sweet peas. The bride was charming in her travel ing costume of midnight blue velvetau and wearing a corsage of pink rose buds and swan so nia. The bride joined the bridegroom at the altar.*- He was accompanied by his brother Curtis Newlin. of Guilford Col lege. as best man. Tiie impressive ring ceremony was used, the vow* being spoken before Revs. E. C. Cooper, of Philadelphia. aiul-G. H. Cooper, of Salisbury, both brothers of the bride while Mrs. Cooper played very softly Traumerie. 'Hie bridal party left the church to the strains ofj Mendelssohn's wedding march. After a trip through western North Carolina Prof, and Mrs. Newlin will be at home to their friends at Guilford Col lege where he is professor of mathemat ics. On the evejiing before the wedding the bride’s parents served dinner to a niuii- Jber of friends. A rehearsal followed the dinner and immediately ' thereafter an informal reception was held. Miss Mclnniss Honors Guests. Miss Mary Mclnnis entertained at her home on McGill street last night, in compliment to her house guests. Misses Ruth Hay and Annie Eudy. of Burling ton. The house was beautifully decor ated with cut flowers and evergreens and looked very pretty in its vari-eolored settings. During.the evening the For est Hill Orchestra furnished music and dancing was indulged in by tlxose who were fond of the pastime, while others played games and enjoyed other forms of amusement. During the evening Miss M#l nnis served an ice course with cake. Several out-of-town guests were present ' from Spencer and Mt. Gilead. Brilliant Reception for Miss Willeford. A very delightful hospitality of Wed nesday afternoon was the reception given by Mrs. W. M. Linker and Mrs. J. ’B. Vomble at the beautiful home of Mrs. Linker on White street, honoring a bride elect of September. Miss Jessie Willeford. The entire home was beautifully dec orated with flowers of tlie season. Mrs. E. T. Cannon greeted the guests at tin* door and -presented them to the hostesses who received in the music room with Miss Jessie Willeford. Mrs. ,J. O. Willeford. mother of the bride-elect, Mrs. .1. Lee Crowell. Mrs. Jqhn Porter, Mrs. Sterling Brown. Mrs. Burks Withers and •Mrs. .Icssc Rowan. Mrs. L. T. Hartsell and Mrs. Gales Pickard directed the way into the hall, where Mrs. P. It. MaeFadyem Mrs. Mark Junker and Mrs. H. S. Williams led the way into the dining room, which was ar tistically decorated in pink, green and white. During the afternooiy, Mrs. J. F. Reed. Mrs. P. B. Raiford, Jr.. Mrs. T. N. Sl>encer, Miss Bertie Louise Willeford, Miss Ruth Willeford. Miss Mary Crowell and Miss Adeline Morrison served angel f<skl cake, nuts and cream in the form of wedding bells, pink roses and green slippers lending enchantment to the love ly color scheme of the dining room. The guests were then directed by Mrs. E. C. Baruhardt. Jr.. Mrs. R. Young and Miss Rose Willeford. into the sun room, where delicious tea was dispensed by Mis# Ida May King and Miss Rosa Muud, assisted by Miss Mary Morrison* Mrs. R. E. Ridenhour. Jr.. Miss Ixtis Crowell, - Miss Laura Gillou and Mrs. T. N. Dea ton. Mrs. C. F. Ritchie and Miss Nell Herring graciously bid the guests adieu. The Yietrola. presided over by Miss Sarah Ellen Linker and Miss Georgia Elizabeth Calloway, kept time to the merry chatter and gay laughter. Mr. Ed. Morris Celeberates His Birthday. On Saturday. August the 18th. the friends and relatives of Mr. Ed. Morris gathered at his home in No. 3 township and gave him a birthday dinner. At 1 o'clock a long table in the grove was Ail ed with many good things to eat. Ev ery one that was present ate to their satisfaction. Air Trout man. their present pastor. % About 1:30 a bountiful dinner was spread on a long table in the yard, of which all ate to their satisfaction. _ The afternoon was spent in a social manner. After a pleasant day. friends' and relatives departed showering this happy "young” couple with congratula tions and good wishes. ONE PRESENT. Miss Margaret Peele Entertains. Little Aliss Margaret Peele entertain ed a number of her friends Monday af ternoon from four to six o clock at hoi home on North Church street celebrating her ninth birthday. The time was happily spent playing games. The/children were assisted by Aliss Janie Kluttz. They were then in vited to the dining room, where a big take, with its lighted candles awaited them. The little hostess was promised a party next year if she blew the nine candle lights out with one blow. She ex tinguished all but one. No admission will be charged for the concert Friday night at Central School Auditorium, but a silver offering will be taken at the door. Other Buildings Authorized in Charlotte. Charlotte, Aug. 22. —"Within 60 days the construction of the $400,000 Shrine mosque will begin. Charlotte has pledg ed aver $50,000 which will be raised to $60,000. Eighty-five thousad dollars iu cash and in property fs held by the committee. The lot cost $40,000. The contract for the new AA’Oman's club was let yesterday at a cost of $35,000, erection of building to begin September 1. Silver Offering to Be_Taken. The admission to the concert by the class from the Odd Fellows Home at Goldsboro, to be given in the Central Graded School Auditorium on Friday night, will be free, but a silver offering wilj be taken at the door, and perhaps a collection during the intermission. Here tofore members of Cold AA’ater Lodge, under whose auspices theh concert is giv en. have sold tickets and have been very successful in raising money in this way, but this year it was decided to do away with selling tickets, make no admission charge, and take a free-will offering at the dooi*.
