Upright moved to Mooresville last Monday. Miss Annie AVeddington returned Sunday to her homo, having recently submitted to an operation for appen dicitis. Her condition continues ,to improve. The singers had a pleasant time singing at the hojpe of"Alr. and Airs. John Plott Sunday evening. They are practicing for the convention which is to meet at Rocky River the fifth Sunday in July. Alias Pearl Carriker is attending summer normal school at Greensboro. Our baseball team had a game scheduleiUto be played with Newell last Saturday but was rained out. They have played only three games this season, winning two and losing one, the first, when they were not in practice. What has become of the county road force? Air. and Airs. D. G. Turner were Sunday visitors in Concord. The storm on Tuesday of last week was very severe, although no great damage was done in this section. Airs. E. B. Smith and children, of Albemarle, are spending the week here. A. I. Barbee returned a few days ago from a Charlotte hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment for some time. He received injuries on liis head in a saw mill accident some months ago and has never recovered therefrom. Air. and Airs. C. E. Aliller and fath er, J. F. Dry, of Albemarle, were .Sunday visitors here. Rev. aud Airs. D. S. Jones were hon ored last Sunday with an elegant birthday dinner which a host of friends served at their home. AVhen all had gathered around the heavily loaded table P. E. Tucker returned thanks and offered a very impressive prayer for all present. After dinner ns many as could get in the living room joined in singing old-time iospel songs. Air. and Airs. Daniel Little were also honored Sunday by a dinner but we have had no report from same. Farmers rejoice in seeing the sun out again, for the grass was getting a wonderful start in the fields. P. CONCORD ROUTE ONE. AVe are having plenty of rain at thus writing. Air. and Airs. D. S. Burris and fam ily spent Friday night with E. AI. Aloore. of Concord Route 1. Willie Barbee iind Aliss Ethel Bur ris were happily married Saturday, June 18tli at Lexlent, S. C. AVe wish them a long and happy life. There was a large crowd of friends gathered at D. S. Burris’ Saturday night. AI. C. Gray spent Saturday night with his home folks. SAVEETHEART. NO. TEN TOWNSHIP. Owing to rain but little field work has been done the past few weeks. Crops look well, but many of the fields are grassy. The what and ats crops have been harvested. Smut and rust did much damage this year, and the yield will be below an average. The condition of J. C. Horton, who has been sick for two weeks, is un changed. . Members of the family of D. M. Clay are convalescing after, having mumps. . . Connections and a few of his neigh bors gave C. P. Linker a surprise birthday dinner last Thursday. When Mr. Linker came from the field at noon lie found a 20-foot table filled with good eats had been erected in the shade in the yard honoring his fiftieth birth anniversary. A truck loaded with 4,500 feet of lumber was seen moving over the splendid sandclay roads here, which reminds us of the improvement in transportation facilities as compared with conditions and facilities a score or more years ago. Then the late Paul Eudy did the heavy healing for the neighborhood farmers on his fave horse wagon. When it was known that Mr. Eudy was going to haul a load of cotton, which was five bales, to market for some farmer the boys, and sometimes men too, would con gregate along the roadway and at Flo we's Store to see the big load pass. A truck now can yarry thirty bales or two mules can ''draw a wagon on which are six or seven with greater ease than died Mr. Eudy s five big horses with five bales. Worth H. Green, who has been a student in philosophy at Emory- Col lege, Atlanta, Ga., for several yeais, delivered an address before the Bethel congregation last Sunday from the text: As a man thinketh so is he.
