THE REPORTER THURSDAY, MARCHI6, 1876. Sow Grass Seed.—Pepper & ftoas hare just received a fresh lot of Arasa and Clover Seed; also a good Variety of fresh Garden Seeds. A. H. Joyce, Esq., is now in attend- ADoe upon the Courts of this circuit Bow is session. tsss ! - _ We learn that a new post-office has been opened at Jacob Fulton's store ( in this county, by the name of Saura town, with Mr. Fulton postmaster. • A...T. Bullind, of Snow Creek neigh, bcrhood, accidently shot himself one day last week, the ball passing through bit band and thigh. The wound is "txmsidered dangerous. Extensive advertisers will find the agency of G. P. Rowell & Co. both reliable and economical. In business ; w> have ®*er found those gentlemen exact and punctual. See advertise ment. We learn that a party of Virgin ians, from Montgomery county, were married at Mr. John R. Jewell's, in this county, on last Sunday. Th e par ties were the Misses Furrow and Messrp. Hudgins and Rodgers. We call attention to the advertise ments of Stinson & Co., and True & "Co., and believp it .is very probable •jbey can furnish profitable employ ment to some of our enterprising citi zens. The advertisers are vouched ' fot as "honorable and reliable busi ness men." We understand that Dr. P. Walter Connaughton, having been persuaded to make a professional visit to some of the principal towps in the coußtry, will viait Danbury some time next month. He treats diseases of the throat, lungs and heart, beside others. Wo will the public of his arrival. —W—I l.i l ~w The citizens ot Danbury were treated to a serenade, with a novel set of instruments, on £aturday night, by m MOttof fealltf of wtusicians. We do not keow the aamee of the instru ments Med, bat we though tthoy were -cow bells and dianer horns. We feaefe that one of oar oitixens, to aid ill keeping up the poise, fired a oeuple of- loads of bird-shot at the squad, whieh eansed tbam to disperse in pre cipitant haste. George Try, from Snow Creek, in this county, was in Danbury at Com miakmere' Court, last Monday week. On hil way home, while engaged in & home-race, his horse fell, wouuoing Fry 4enge*ously, and breakiug the bote*'* kag and shoulder. Ie it not aafajfc when heavily burthened witii whisky, to ha oa foot ? The distance between the head and. the ground is not ad, greet aa when on the back of a bora*. Of all the curses which the ' Almighty permits to afflict the people , of oar eoeaty, whisky assuredly should I etaad at th* bead of the list. The Coaaty Commissioners have tioenaei twelve retail liquor dealers in Btokea» with the expectation of in creasing the county revenue. Does it do so? The tax to thqcounty is S3OO. If yon will look .at the jail fees, which are to be traced directly or indirectly to groggeriee, you will see that these tfrelve shops costs the county three or four times as much as they yield. They keep our jail and poor-bouse bturdeaed all the time with inmates, Is there BO hope for us ? Must we go down into that degradation whioh al ways fallow, the excessive use of strong Relieve us from this awful! (jurap or we are a ruined people! The colored school in Danbury is still in operation—setting an example of earnestness and wisdom that should bo emulated by some white people wo know of. A school, to be successful, phould be regular. The assistance ! Tendered by the State in this matter, i is intended te encourage education. The State does not assume the re sponsibility of giving each child all the education it should have ; but tho , }iorent is expected to uianife3t an intercut in his own child's welfare, and provide private schools when the pub lic schools suspend. We hope our people will make an effort to open and patronize a private school m every neighborhood. There is no subject of more vital importance to those whom it is our duty to" provide for than that of education. There is no sin of omission for which God will hold us responsible, more criminal in its char acter than a neglect of this important | duty. □anbury Markets CORKECTED W«EKLV BY PEPPER & SONS. Zj.
