Ruthless Murder in Patrick County.! Va. —The Slayer Captured. Stuart Enterprise. Patrick County lias been the scene of many horrible and bloody murders, but possible the worst to be recorded is the killing of Mrs, P. E. Goode at her home last Thursday by Otho DeHart. It seems that DeHart, and his broth er, Bert DeHart were, on last Thursday on a drunk, and were roaming around over thecominun ity. Their liquor gave out, and Bart went back to get a fresh sup ply of whiskey and Otho went to the home of P. E. Goode, where no one was, except Mrs. Goode and her children. When DeHart went up into the yard he began firing at the chickens and killed one or more of them. Mrs. Goode came out and protested against her chickens being killed when young Dullart deliberately turned his gun on her and emptied a load of shot into her abdomen instantly killing her. Dehart immediately fled ami was captured in Floyd county Friday and was brought back and given a preliminary trial ijear the scene of his crime Satur day and by Justice Dillion was sent on to the Grand Jury and committed to jail. He was brought here Saturday night under guard and sent to the Martinsville jail Sunday. At the preliminary hear ing Saturday the prisoner claimed the shooting was accidental. Mrs. Goode was a daughter of Mr. Hardin Hall of the Ballard com munity, and was married to Mr. Goode souio six years ago. She leaves a husband and four children, the oldest child being about five years old, and the youngest only three months old, TUTTLE. Tuttle, June 6.
