This Is a Difference Of 182 Over Two Years Ago, When 473 Were Disfranchised. Two years ago there were 473 unpaid polls in Stokes county.) This year there are only about 291, and this figure includes all those who aro double-faxed and wroiig names and those have died and removed to other counties.; | What proportion of these are Democrats and Republicans, ean | not with any accuracy be deter mined, as both parties are making j their usual claims. But it is i certain that nearly 2(X) more votes i will be cast at the next election | over the vote of 1!K)4, and for this I reason there will bo a closer fight | and more hotly contested election ' than was the case two years ago. j - - Death Of Mr. Jno. Wall. An Old Stokes Boy. At His Home In Winston. Mr. Jno. Wall died at his home | in Winston last week after an ill-1 ness of several months. He had j suffered with heart trouble, which caused his death. Mr. Wall was an old Stokes boy, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Zack Wall, of Madison Route 3. He left home early in j life, and accumulated considerable j property, being a member of the J succcssfull firm of Wall & Huske, i | hardware dealers. The dead man is survived by a wife and two children, and the following brothers and sisters; S. G. Wall, of Madison Route 3; Jas. Wall, of Pine Hall; Chas. Wall, of Madison: Hunter Wall,, of Wins-1 T. M'Wall, of Indiana; Mrs. Robt. i P. McAnalty, of Saxon; Mrs. Thos. Reynolds, of Stokes county. The bereaved relatives have the sincere sympathy of many friends S&hool Closing and Debate. The school at Oak Grove, Mr. R. E. Faw, teacher, will close next Saturday with an exhibition. J. Martin. Walnut Cove, May I.—Mrs. D. B. Foucht and neice, Miss Ada Hart, have just returned from a visit over in Rockingham county at the lumber camp of the former's husband, Mr. D. B. Foucht. While there Mr. Foucht gave an outdoor lunch at the mill in honor of his sister and iieice, who had never seen a mill. The day was ideal in its spring time beauty The dear friends chaperoned by Mrs. J. K. Ellington and Mrs. John Dallas, seemed bent on merry making, and igood humor carried the day. The day at Grandma Ellington's in honor of hor 84th birthday was a grand success. She is one of those whom age has glorified. Small and graceful in her way she appears no more than 50. She has been a j widow many years, living on her fine plantation and managing it I herself. Mr. Nat Bowles, of Germanton Route 1, was in town the past | week. W, J. Martin was here early the j past week looking after his guano 1 business. He returned to Wins ton to find his little infant very low with whooping cough. Later the dear boy died Sunday and was buried late Monday afternoon at the Covington family burying ground 4 mileg north of our town. Miss Fannie Voss spent Sunday j at the home of Mrs. L.C. Webster ;as the guest of Miss Viola Scales. J. R. Voss went to Germanton j Sunday afternoon on the 6 o'clock train, Mr. S. C. Rierson acting P. M. for him. Mr Voss claimed bviß. as an excuse, but jtg very much like the young girl's letters all coming from a cousin, it's a love match pure and simple. H. H. Davis visited his parents near Danbury Sunday. The Methodist Minister, Rev. Mr. Albright, filled the pulpit at First Baptist church Sunday night. His subject being the love of God for both saint and sinner. The subject was presented in many phases. We mention espeoial | ly the appeal to parents to cease telling children when found guilty of sinful conduct that God did not love them on account of such sin, but make the distinction that it is | only the sin that God despises, etc. Mr. Billy on Route 1, is very low with heart trouble. Columbus Blackburn is very sick, Mr. Blackburn has been in the employ of the R. D. East fam ily for a number of years. Please Young and daughter were here Saturday.
