Briefs Adrift. Mr. .las. M. Fang, of Red Shoals, was a Danbury visitor Tuesday. Messrs. J. Spot Taylor and C. M. Jones visited Walnut Cove Tuesday. Col. A. H. .Toyoe returned Mon day froin a trip to Winston and other places. Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Jones visit ed Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Savage near Germanton yesterday. Mr. Thos. Martin, of Meadows, was a visitor at the Reporter office Monday. Attorney N. O. Petree left Mon day for Spray to look after some professional business. Messrs. Robt. Covington and Elija Simmons, of Rook House, called on the Reporter a few days since. Several of the children of Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Joyce, of Walnut Cove, are reported to be quite ill with measles. Deputy Sheriffs Robt. Coleman, of Campbell Route 2, 'and J. J Priddy, of Danbury Route 1, were in town Monday. Pastor D. A. Biukley filled his regular appointment at the M. E. church Sunday night. He expects to preach here next Sunday at 4:00 o'clock, P. M. The leaves have only about twenty more days in which to get grown if they reach that state by the tenth of May. Most trees show very little sign of life yet. Visitors to the Jamestown Ex position grounds say that the North Carolina building will make a fine showing and that it is one of the best located buildings on the grounds. Dr. W. H. Wakefield, of Char lotte, the well known eye, ear, nose and throat specialist, was here Monday. Several patients were treated. He went from here to Pilot Mountain. The Danbury base ball ground has been moved to the bottom just below the river bridge. The boys are at work on it this week ami when it is completed there will probably not be a better ground in the county. Mea lowrt defeated Danbury by a score of 2U to 9 in a base ball game on the Danbury grounds Saturday afternoon. This is the first time Danbury has been the loser in a game. None of the E layers of either side were at their ■st on accouut of the snow and oold wind. Danbury expects to play Meadows again soon. PINNACLE. * Pinnacle, April 15.—Rev. Bar rett filled his regular appointment at the Baptist Church Sunday. The commencement will be here the 18 and'l9 of April. Misses Maggie Mickey, Curtis Crouse and Edith Spainhower visited Miss Ida Jones Sunday. Mr. Ernest Mickey is looking very sad as Miss Nora McCollum has returned home. Miss Curtis Crouse is expecting to go to South Carolina to visit her sister, Mrs. McCall. Miss Ida Jones is expecting to go to Mt. Airy in a few days. Miss Hattie Davis spent a short while at King Saturday afternoon Mr. W. C. If— WESTFIELD ROUTE 1. Westtield Route 1, April lf>.— The farmers in this community have not planted very much corn owing to such a cold spell recent ly. They say that all the fruit is killed, and it is feared that early plaiting of grain has been dam aged considerably. Many old men say they never saw such a cold spell in April before, to have as mild weather in March as has been this time. Messrs. W. D. George, Joseph Gilley, Oliver and Thos. Frans visited Asbury and Albion Sun day. Rev. and Mrs. J. H. Wright visited their daughter, Mrs. Mil lard Collins, Sunday. Mr. C. R. Gilley, of Surry, visit ed his son, Mr. Jos. Gilley, at the Big Creek roller mill last week. The farmers say that Hies have almost entirely destroyed the to bacco plants in some sections, and all plants are injured more or less j by them. A certain boy went to a certain place last Sunday and peeped in at the north window and was so disgusted at a certain fellow that ho left and did not go in. He said pffavines were growing around the corn stalks in a hurry. B. H. Register of Deeds Jones issued j only one marriage license the past week, as follows: Logan Cham-; berlain to Bunch Martin, both of Stokes county. Misses Anna and Carrie Martin, of Meadows, entered school here this week. Rev. S. S. Oliver and family, of ' Franklin, West Va., are expected !to visit relatives here the last of j this woek.
