THE DANBURY REPORTER.
VAinUT COVE DM
By The Danbury Reporter's Special Correspondent.
Walnut Cove, Sept. 23.—The
merchants of our town are daily
receiving their fall stocks of
goods. We hope the people of
the county around will remember
that when a dollar is left in their
home town they have a chance to
reap some benefit from it again.
There is nothing so patriotic as to
see a people trying to build up
home enterprises.
The work of the coal mine is
being pushed rapidly to the front.
Mr. W. T. Brown, one of the men
chiefly interested, was in town
Saturday.
Work on the cotton mill at this
j place is expected to begin soon.
Mr. Nat Hedgecock tells us that
he could have shipped ten cars of
brick last week if he could have
secured the cars. It is a great
pity that our enterprises are thus
tied up. The roads should he
made to furnish cars to haul the
freight, it seems to us.
Mr. Ed Carroll, representing
the firm of Marler-Dalton-Gilmer
Co., was in town Thursday.
Sheriff Petree passed through
town Thursday. The Sheriff had
been to carry the boys who were
engaged in the Fulp shooting
affair to trial.
Mr. J. A. Petree returned to his
home Friday. Mr. Petree has
been at Conway, S. C., for the
month or two buying tobacco.
Mr. W. J. Martin spent Sunday
night and a part of Monday in
our city.
Our solicitor, Mr. Graves was here
today on his way to attend court
at Danbury.
Rev. W. T. Albright filled his
regular appointment last Sunday.
The Methodist use the Baptist
church until their house is com
pleted.
The ball game between Walnut
Cove and Sandy Ridge was lar
gely attended. Neither side did
any star playing, although it was
a very good game, until near the
last when a very sad and serious
accident happened to one of our
townsmen, Mr. C. T. Willis. The
score was 22 to 14 in favor of
Walnut, as follows :
Walnut Cove, 1 342 20 55 0
Sandy Ridge, 0 02061203
The game would have been en
joyed very much if it had not been
for the terrible misfortune which
befell Mr. Willis.
George W. Fulton has come back
and is now with J. A. Payne in
the shop repairing and horse shoe
ing business at Walnut Cove,
N. C.

Your attention is called to the
advertisement of Riwenbacher's
Department store which appears
on another page of the Reporter.
Read what they have to say.
You will find it interesting, and
when you visit Winston if you
will drop in at their place you
will see one of the handsomest
j stores in North Carolina. They
have certainly got the goods and
their prices are always as cheap or
cheaper than they are elsewhere.
