She is an ex cellent young lady, and Mr. Tuttle is to be congratulated. Dr. W. A. Lash, of Greensboro, was here last week looking after some of his extensive property in terests. We are glad to see the Dr. looking so well. A piece of crepe was found banging on the door of a certain young bachelor yesterday morn ing. There have tfeen no deaths in the family, and various spec ulations are rife as to the meaning of the incident. Kirs. Oscar Petree is visiting at Gerruanton. Messrs. W. J. Martin and J. A. Petree have recently returned from South Carolina, where they have been buying tobacco. They say that the tobacco crop of the South, which is nearly all sold, averaged about 12J cents. Our farmers should feel good over this, for the South Carolina to bacco is not to be compared to the rich weed of the Piedmont section of North Carolina. Mr. Lathe Knight, one of our best farmers, was in town yester day on business at tha Bank. Mr. Knight carried a load of tobacco to Winston this week for which he received an average of 15 cents. Mr. Chas. Powell and wife, of Pine Hall, were in town today on their way to Danbury. Mrs. Pow ell was formerly Miss Flinn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Flinn. Your correspondent has inter viewed a number of farmers re turning from the Winston tobacco market this week and they one and all report that tobaco is sell ing at satisfactory prices. They say that the Winston buyers are hungry for the weed, and that they are paying for it.
