Page 8 Tobacco Growers Suffer. Last week the bright-tobacco growers of North Carolina and Virginia formed an association , which they anticipate will secure for them from fifteen to twenty cents a pound for their tobacco. One enthusiastic farmer declared that the plan adopted "is 10,000 miles ahead of Kentuckey and Tennessee." According to his view the dry prizeries are the greatest advantage over the sys tem in those States. Dr. H. Q. Alexander of Mecklenburg coun ty. president of the North Caro lina Fanners' Union, was at the meeting and made a speech that was received with great enth usiasm. lie urged his brother - agriculturists to raise their home supplies, control the tobacco i situation and realize true values I for crops. Harmony characterized ; the sessions, and though the i plans are not made public, the ■ chairman of the committee ar ranging the poo! said t« a repor- : ter: ( "! pon a count being taken we felt confident in declaring a pool ! of our tobacco on the assurance that we controlled a majority of the tobacco now being grown. We have established a bureau of information composed of as good brains and business ability as an \ where. We are now organizing i so that within a few hours we i can call together ovjry tobacco j grower ir. th'j district." While tiie neighboring tobacco j men are thus arranging to take i care of themselves, a heavy hand has been laid upon the tobacco producers in others fields. Fifteen hun- j dred acres of tobacco were mow- j ed down thoroughly that not a j leaf of merchantable tobacco! remains, and more than 1,000 acres were damaged to a less r j degree. More than 10 per cent j of the entire New England to- j baeeo crop was destroyed. Verily, we all have our trou bles and the tobaco grower is no exception to the rule. When he makes a crop, he can realize but little from it; and when it is a failure, the price is out of sight.—Charlotte Observer. THIRTY YEARS TOGETHER Thirty years of association think of it. How the merit of a good thing stands out in that time—or the worthlessness of a bad one. Ss there's ho guess work in this evidence of Thoa. Ariss. Concord, Mich., who writes: "I have used Dr. King's New Discovery for 30 years, and its the best cough and cold cure I ever used."
