W'o have recently heard a grout deal about economy, but we doubt 1 nough has been said about k 'ah.li conservation, which, after : I. is one of the !;m -t kind of economy measures. and 01. ;:i the end will ] a; t l . ■ most substantial divide:. Is. Every . ear the Hy-borne disease, typhoid I'o.er. and tl. rnos ,uiio borne malaria are respon3ibc for thousands and thousands of un necessary deaths, linyerin.tr ill nesses, greatlv impaired efficien cy, and i.- tu.d mi. : n.s in doc tors' bills. Typhoid fever and malaria are preventable diseases, and there is no good reason why they should not be absolutely banished from our country. It may sound a little hard, but do you know that 1 it is somebody's fault when there is an outbreak of typhoid in youiy family or your neighborhood?l Somebody's fault when your! loved ones suffer from from ma laria borne by mosquitoes that should never have been allowed to breed? Right now is the time' to light these death-carrying pests, and it is ay:tin a case where an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Don't let the Hies and mosqui toes breed. Perhaps bo percent of the common house flies breed in horse manure in the stables, and this can be prevented by cleaning out the stables at least once a week and keeping the manure in screened receptacles until it can be put on the fields. 1 If this cannot be done, powdered borax frequently sprinkled over the manure will keep flies from breeding. Then be careful to see that flies have no access to privates and garbage piles, and our usual plague of flies will be a thing of the past. Science has proved that a | particular kind of mosquito is en tirely responsible for malaria, and if this particular species of mosfjuitt never bites us we arej certain never to suffer with chills and fever. Here, too, it' |is a simple case of prevention— not letting these posts breed. All ponds and stagnant pools should he drained, or if this is impos sible, then they should be oiled once a week. Buckets, barrels, tin cans and like receptacles should be kept empitied of wa ter. and thickets of weeds and underbrush that might harbor mosquitoes should be cleaned up. \ftor all these precautions have been taken, every window and door in the Inus- 1 should be carefully screened. The expense «f this will not be great, and it is the hi st kind of insurance against doctors' bills, sickness and nouth. usid health ;s one of the biggest things life gives' is.
