Authorities on the subject say that the few warm days recently have caused the lish to begin 'running, "and some of the boys ave been making some nice atches from the river here. Mr. G. L. .Jarvis. of Shelby, vho has been in Danbury some time with a view to locating here i ir the practice of law, has de cided to go to Walnut Cove and last week secured office rooms there. Mrs. J. 1). Humphreys, ac companied by her sister, Miss Lula Binkley, who has been vis iting her for some weeks, expects to leave tomorrow to visit her parents, Rev. and Mrs. D. A. Binkley, at Lewisville, N. C. The next Primitive Baptist Association for this district will Oe held at Russel Creek church, twelve miles north of Danbury just over the Virginia line in Patrick county, on the third Saturday and Sunday in May. Mr. Zeb Frazier, of Campbell, was a Danbury visitor today. The little daughter of Mr. i Frazier, who was recently oper- J ated upon for tonsilitis at a Winston - Salem hospital, is get ting along nicely. Before the operation the little girl's sight was impaired to a considerable degree but has now been com- ! pletely restored. ■ It is estimated that there are now as many as one hundred automobiles owned by citizens of i Stokes county. Each of these 1 machines is required to pay a license tax ranging from live to ten dollars each, depending upon , the horse power of the machine, j and the law provides that eighty j per cent, of this license tax shall I ' be spent on the public roads. Work was started this week on the big steel bridge to be erected across Dan river at George's roller mill, near Fran- I cisco, in northern Stokes. The ] Virginia Bridge & Iron Co. has ! the contract for the work at the j price of $2750.00 and it will 'probably require several weeks ito complete the work. Mr. R. R. King of Danbury is superin tending the construction of the | bridge. ■ Two warrants were issued Monday by Justice of the Peace N. A. Martin for Lum Booth.} Both warrants were issued at the instance of Robert Kiser, one of , which charges assault on the; person of HI wood Kiser. son of Ribt. There were services at Stew act's school house Saturday and Sunday by the pastor, Rev. 0. P. , Routh. Mr. Ernest Alley called to see Miss Lillie Case Sunday. Messrs. John and Charles Mitchell visited at Walnut Cove Sunday. Mr. Jesse Gatewood called on Miss Sadie Alley Sunday after noon. j Mrs. Jane Tilley, an aged wo man of this community, passed away at her home Tuesday. Mr. Gilmer Barker, of Walnut Cove, called on Miss Mary Smith Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. John Brown and daughter. Miss Nannie, and Miss Delia Bullen visited Mr. anil Mrs. John Duggins Sunday. Among those who visited at Mr. Walter 1. Mitchell's Sunday were Messrs. Joseph C. Abbott, Wade Stultz, Elbert Roberts and C. T. Lasley. A large crowd attended services at Clear Spring Sunday. Carter remains quite; ill, we are sorry to note Mrs. Sallie Terrell, who hasi been confined to her room fori • some time, remains quite low. Willie, the small son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Hutcherson, is. quite sick at this writing. There was a musical given at Mr. S. L. Venable's on last Thursday night. All present seemed to enjoy the music fine. Miss Ruth Wall is visiting her cousin, Miss Lottie Wall, on Madison Route 3 at present. Miss Lottie Wall visited her; cousins, Misses Ella and Ruth Wall, the past week. Quite a crowd visited the In- i dian Rock on Snow creek Easter Monday. All seemed to enjcy the day fine. Miss Isabell Terrell, of Stone ville Route 2, is visiting relatives in this section at present. Mr. J. T. Baynes, of Winston, visited the bedside of his sister, Mrs. Sallie Terrell, the past week. Misses Minnie and Rosie East and Li Hie Ward and J. E. Ward visited at Mr. J. (i. Dunlap's Saturday and Sunday. Quite a crowd visited at Mr. Robt. Wilkin's Saturday night. There is a lot of sickness in this vicinity at present. Mrs. John Craddock died Satur day and was buried Sunday. Miss Lena Martin, who has been actending school at I'errum, Va., spent Easter with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. (j. R. Martin. Miss Lelia Mays also spent Easter with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Mays. Miss May Martin entertained 'quite a number of her young 1 friends Thursday night. Among those present were Misses Roda ;and Jewell Williams.
