lOCAL^ NEWS Mr. John (i. Fulton, of Walnut Cove, was a Dan bury visitor to day. Mr. Geo. W. Smith, of Camp bell. was among Danbury's visit ors Monday. Messrs. Jas. M. and John Neal, of Meadows, were among Danbury's visitors today. Dr. W. C. Slate, who is now a citizen of Walnut Cove, and Mr. A. W. Davis, were visitors here today. Mr. N. O. I'etree returned yesterday from Wentworth where he attended Rockingham court Monday. Prof. J. Allen Holt, president of Gale Ridge College, died yesterday after a lingering ill ness. Dr. and Mrs. W. V. McCanless left today to visit friends and relatives in Winston-Salem and (Greensboro. Mr. J. H. Fulton. Cashier of the Hank of Stokes County at Walnut Cove, spent a short while here today. Mr. Ed Smith, of Campbell, was here yesterday. Mr. Smith is having erected a nice new resi dence which will be completed in a few days. Miss Sal lie Fulton, of Walnut Cove, spent Sunday with Miss Mary Martin, and was accompan ied home by Miss Martin, who spent Monday at Walnut Cove. Danbury is noted for its musical people. Many of the children can perform quite well on the piano, among these being little Misses Nellie Chilton and Edith Fagg. I)r. and Mrs. .J. C. Lawrence, of Winston-Salem, were here Sunday enroute home from a visit to the parents of Mrs. Law rence, Rev. and Mrs. R. W. George, at Francisco. The county commissioners will hold a special meeting here next Monday when the contract for the erection of the new county home will be let. It is learned that there will be quite a num ber of bids on the work. Prof. E. S. Millsapps, of States ville, is here this week assisting county demonstrator Holt in farm work over the county. Mr. Mill saps is Manager of the farm de monstration work for the West ern district of North Carolina. The Reporter is requested to announce that Evangelist John W. Ham, of Atlanta, >a., will begin a series of meetings in the Baptist church at Walnut Cove next Sunday. The meetings will continue until Friday night. Prof. Lyon will have charge. These meetings are planned for the benefit of everybody. The public is cordially invited to at tend. The services will be held at lOiIiO a. m. and at S o'clock at night. Mr. 0. N. Petree, of Walnut Cove, was in town today and )>aid us a pleasant call, and told us something of his trip to the 'Frisco Exposition, from which place he has just returned. Oscar made the trip as the guest of the Prudential Insurance Com pany with some forty or fifty others of the company's ollicials who had sold SIOO,OOO worth of insurance. The trip was great but he enjoyed the scenery en route more than the sights at the end. The grand canyon was one of the most impressive things, where you look at the ditch 0,1)00 feet deep which the Colorado river has worn through the solid rock of the mountain. The vast deserts, the praries, the great cities of the wild and wooly west, the sands, the salt lake, and other interesting sights were incidents of the journey* Mountain Park Mountain Park, June 14.- Dr. !J. B. Hubbell came in a few 'days ago from New York. He , has been there taking work at : Columbia University. Arrange ments have been made for Dr. Hubbell to teach English at | Mountain Park this summer. He i will give a review of English I Grammar and do whatever else he considers to the best interest of the teachers. It is expected that he will teach a class of about one hundred students, the great er part of which will be public school teachers. The people of Mountain Park and the students of the school are delighted to have Dr. Hubbell here and to have him for an English teacher. Prof. Jones is back at Moun tain Park and has resumed his I work. Mr. Ralph Pfafl", of South Caro ' lina, is visiting his sister, Miss Mamie Pfalf, of this place. Mr. Paul E. Hubbell, who has 1 been at Oxford, England, during the past year, is supposed to be on the ocean and is expected at • Mountain Park in a few days. I The school here continues to I grow. The superintendent says that he is sure that the number of boarding students enrolled this year will pass the two hundred mark. The carpenters are busy all the time. Every effort pos sible is being put forth in order that more students may be ac commodated. A number of beautiful building lots at this place will be sold oni June2sth. We understand that: the property will be allowed to go for what it will bring. The terms will be easv, thus enabling any person who desires a home now or at some future time in a good school community to have it. It is expected that each of the teachers and a number of the students will take advantage of the opportunity. Mr. J. N. Sester, of Yadkin county, spent Saturday night in Mountain Park. Mr. Sester has a son in school here. Miss Rosa Tally, of Winston- Salem, spent a few days in Moun tain Park visiting friends. A number of Elkin people came out to Mountain Park Sunday. it is expected that considerable work will be done on the streets of Mountain Park during the ' summer. A public debate will be given Friday night June 25th. The question that will be dis cussed is: "Resolved that Labor Unions should be prohibited." A new store house is being erected at Mountain Park. It is expected that it will be complet ed by July Ist. Rev. R. K. Redwine arrived at Mountain Park last Saturday. He has been at Wake Forest dur j ing the past year. How Tn Make a Road Drag.
