At the lovely country home of
Mrs. R. F. Hatcher at Brim. N.
C., a quiet beautiful wedding,
was solemnized on Tuesday, June
22, when her daughter. Miss'
Berta Hatcher, became the lovely
bride of Mr. R. F. Tillev, of Mt.
Airy, N. C.
The ceremony was performed
by Rev. C. W. lrvin. pastor of
the Presbyterian church at A>-
fcjrv, assisted by Rev. Roy Smith,
the beautiful ring ceremony be
ing used.
Tne parlor was beautifully and
tastefully decorated with a pro
fusion of rhododendrons, these
being arranged to form un aisle
eifect.
Preceeding the approach of the
bridal partv, Miss Lillian Sim
mons, of Asburv. sweetly sang.
"Oh. Promise Me." The "Bridal
Chorus" from Lohengrin, played
by Miss Irene Thompson, of Mt.
Airy, heralded the approach of
the bridal party. The little
Misses Mary and Lena Mayes,
r.eices of the bride, daintlv dress
ed in white lingerie frocks, enter
ed rirst carrying a basket of
roses, in the heart of one of
which was concealed the ring.
The bride, then, exquisitely and
becomingly attired in a going away
suit of blue with hat and shoes
to match, carrying a handsome
bouquet of bride's roses, entered
with the groom, who wore the
c.nventional black. While Mc-
Dowell's "To a Wild Rose" was
played at the piano the magic
w-.-rds which united the young
c jpie were spoken. To the
strains ot Mendelssohn's "Wed
,:r.g March," the party marched
to the gift room where congratu
'ations were said.
The handsome and numerous
presents attested to the popular
ity of b >th bride and groom.
The bride is the beautiful and
attractive daughter of Mrs. R. F.
Hatcher. and is popular among
a host of friends, while the groom
is a young man of sterling char
acter and an enterprising busi
ness man in Mt. Airy.
The happy couple left f>r an
extended trip of about two weeks
to points north. After their re
turn Mr. and Mrs. Tilley will be

"In the summer of l*ss I had

and then told me they did not ex

telegraph for my family. Instead
of doing so, I gave the hotel
porter fifty cents and told him to
buy me a bottle of Chamberlain's

I took a double dose according to
the directions and went to sleep

Painless Advice.
The rule of give and take ap
' plies to many things, but not to
■ advice. Whosoever attempts to
advice as freelv as he gives it
must either be dumb, to begin
with, or else will end badly. In
this connection an amusing moral
is pointed to by the action of a cer
tain Kansas girl. The Kansas
City Star clips her story from its
neighbor, the Hiawatha World:
A girl in Hiawatha had a pro
posal of marriage Sunday night,
and asked a week to consider it
before tiling her answer. She
then organised herself into an
investigating committee and com
menced taking testimony from
the married ladies of her acquain
tance. The rirst one she visited
used to be a belle and the most
admired girl in the town before
she was married six years ago.
i'he cross-examination brought
out the fact that she had three
children, did all her own work,
| including her washing and iron
ing, and hadn't been down-town
for four weeks, and that her
husband had given her but $2
since she was married, and that he
had borrowed and forgot to pay
back Sin whichjher brother once
gave her for a Christmas present.
Hebought him a new overcoat
with the money, while she wore
the same plush coat that she wore
when he „ was courting her.
Another woman whom she visit
ed quit teaching school three
years ago to marry "the hand
somest and best-drest man in
town," and she is now supporting
him. A third didn't dare say
her soul was her own when her
husband was around, tho she
used to write some lovely essays
when she was at school on the
"emancipation of women." and
the fourth woman she visited was
divorced. After visiting them and
summing up the evidence, she
went home ani married next
month.

IS Sneks and Bird Story.
A small snake climbed a tele
phone pile and crossing the side
walk on a piece of piping secured
a bird from a nest in the Coving
ton building Saturday morning.
The bird's nest was in a hole in
the wall made to allow the tele
phone cables to pass into the
building. The snake was mak
ing the return trip with the
bird's head in its mouth when
the mother bird came upon the
scene. As she was an English
sparrow, it may be imagined the
kind of row she raised and the
result was that the snake got ex
cited and lost his balance, falling
to the sidewalk below. The bird
was rescued and the snake killed.

Report Of the Meeting

> Messrs. Editors:
) Will you please give me space
. in your paper for a report of a
( meeting held in your county.
We began a meeting: under a
1 large gospel tent in King the
' night of June loth. We were
■ told before we went to King
; that we would not be able to
. hold a meeting there on account
of the bad boys, but we want to
say for the boys of King that
we have held meetings in dif
ferent places for the past seven
years, but never have we found
a place or people where we had
any better order than that of
King. We were there lor 12
days and oights, and during this
time there was good order and
good attendance, such as we
have never witnessed at any
place before. We can truly say
for the people of King that they
treated us with the greatest of
respect. We were invited into
the most of the homes. In fact
all the best people of King stood
by us in the meeting. The |
Lord met with us in great power
on the last of the meeting and
gave us a real good time. All
denominations joined us and
we feel assured that they were
all blessed and helped. There
were several souls saved during
the meeting and the church,
members greatly revived. We
shall never forget the good peo
ple of King and they shall al
ways have our prayers. 1 want
to say to the readers of this
paper that when you hear of.
people speaking about the bad
boys of King you tell them that
it is a mistake for we never had
boys to treat us any better than
they did. May the dear Lord
bless and keep them until we
meet again.
Your brothers in Christ,
