J. \V. Bailey, of Raleigh, de_ feated Senator F. M. Sim mons by a huge majority in Saturday's primary. While a few counties have not sent in complete returns the majority at present is around 70,000. Stokes county gave Bailey more than GOO majority. Th-' contest throughout the State was said to have been the most intense since the famous KtUhin-Simmons contest for the same office a go:;d many years since. Present indications art* that Geo. M. I'ritchard, Republican, 'if Asheviile, will be Bailv's opponent in the fall election, he having defeated Tucker, Butler and IJorsett, iiepublican candidates for the place. There had been intimations that Senator Simmons might run as an independent in view of the fact that Bailey entered the campaign with the avowed JOHN W. HALL GETS NOMINATION Republican Candidate For Solicitor In This Dis trict Gets More Votes Than Other Two Men. The Republican nomination for solicitor in this district goes to Attorney J. W. Hall, of Danbury, according to official returns from the three coun. ties of the district—Stokes, Guilford and Davidson. The other candidates for this office were Henry R. Stanley and Jas. T. Allen, of Greens boro, both of whom made rath er extensive campaigns in Stokes. A. C. A call has been issued for a convention of the Democrats of Stokes county on Saturday, June 28, at 2 o'clock P. M. This meeting is for the purpose of electing delegates to the State convention at Raleigh, which meets on July 3, and also to name a chairman of the county executive committee to assume charge of the 1930 campaign and to serve two years. HUMPHREYS IS NOMINEE Receives Highest Vote Of Three Candidates For Judge In 12th District—A. Wayliiid Cooke, Second Highest, Announces That He Will Not Ask For Second Primary—Mr. Humphreys Gets Practically AH Democratic Votes In Stokes. In Saturday's primary Hon. John D. Humphreys, Demo cratic candidate for Judge in the 12th District, received practically all the Democratic votes in Stoke county, led the other two candidates, .Messrs. Cooke and Hoyle in Davidson county, and received a hand some vote in Guilford county. While lie did not receive enough votes in the three coun ties to nominate him. he hud 2714 more votes in the District than Mr. Cooke and 3825 mora than Mr. Hoyle. Here is the official vote: Greensboro, June 10. A. Wayland Cooke, second in the primary, announced this morn ing lie will not contest in a second primary with J. D. Humphreys, cf Danbury, for the nomination as judge of the Twelfth Judicial District, com. posed of Guilford, Stokes and Davidson counties.
