Stoke* Signed Tobacco Acreage And Production a Bit High The contracted acreage and production in Stokes is slightly above the figures announced for this area by the Internal Revenue Department. However, the Stokes figures are not so far out of line as those of the average county j in the state As announced be fore and during the sign-up cam paign growers who gave substan- 1 tiating evidence to support their j records will receive no cut in bringing the total figures into line with government figures But it *riU be necessary to adjust our, figures before our contracts will be accepted. The committeemen wil consider this matter soon and -determine the method to use for adjusting the figures. Fortu nately nearly all of the growers in Stokes have signed contracts' and will be exempted from pay- 1 ing this tax. Andy ; Joyce, aged resident of Asbury I section, passed away last Thurs day about noon. He was 84 years, 6 months and 27 days old. He had been mar ried to Sally Mills €2 years, and is , survived by his wife and eight children: Messrs. R. F., W. A., j and C- L. Joyce, Mrs. Bob Bate man; Lef Bateman, Pwrrin Hart | man, Sweeny Mayberry, and Etta )( • Matthews, with 37 grandchildren. I j A host of friends and relatives are left to mourn their loss. , : j Mr. Joyce had been a member j of the old Primitive Baptist Church for a number of years. The church has lost a good mem ber, the children and wife a good father and husband, his friend-t and neighbors a good neighbor. I The funeral was preached by Rev. Harris, of near Mt. Airy. In i terment was in the family grave yard. j There are very few couples that I start out in life work as hard and I rear as large a family and live to gether as long as these dear old people have.
