Johnston, Director, Schools of Business Training, Internationa! Cor respondence Schools. We live in a changing world. Opportunities for success in the /mure will differ from those in the past. A young man's wise choice cf his life work nay do much to determine success or failure. How shall he choose? The Skilled Accountant Accounting and bookkeeping are so often confuted that at the start it is best to define the : dilTerence between the two. Book keeping is the keeping of records. Accounting is far more than thio. The skilled accountant is a busi ness analyst. His function is the proper placing of costs, the locat ing of profits and the discovery of j the unseen leaks that sap the life of a business and destroy proiit3. His analysis show 3 which opera- ! tions of a business are conducted at a profit and which are really result ing in a loss. His reports are to the business what charts and observa tions are to the navigating oflicers of an ocean liner. The growing complexity of busi- : r.ess organization, the increasing demands of stockholders and others for a complete and accurate pic ture of the profit and loss results of operations, are all tending to i increase the already great impor tance of the skilled accountant.
