It will take money to re-j pair roads now in bad shape bo -1 cause of the limit of spending set by the 19153 Legislature. It will take money to increase the High way Patrol and enforce a driver's license law. But other State in terests wish to take motoric's taxes to pay their bills. DECISIONS Political wise boys, now gathered in Raleigh from all over the State are or.- pecting Clyde R. Hoey, Shelby silver-tonguer, and Congressman R. L. Doughton to make an-' nounceir.entn of their intention" as touching the gubernatorial race before the blue birds fly again. Both these political big shots have told friends that they expected to reach conclusions "af ter the first of the year." Tha. day has come and gone and a great silence hangs over Shelby and Sparta. North Carolina. "Rut it won't be long now," say friends and supporters of both potential gubernatorial candidates. ATTORNEY-G E N E R A L Forces that would like to de throne Attorney General Dennis G. Brummitt are busy hunting for a triple-threat to tun against the Granville man if he seeks re election. That is just what he is expected to do unless he decides to run for Governor or listen to thus? who would send him gun ning for Senator Bailey. Some of the friends of Lieutenant Governor ( Graha m would pit him against Mr. Brummitt and up from Craven County has come word that former State Senator Larry I. With all the other prob lems of finance confronting the ; lawmakers this demand is not likely to become reality at th' 3 session but sentiment has been 1 moving in that direction for some , time since the State took over! I operation of schools and roads, j The most reliable estimate is that; i 1 taking over local school and road bonds would add $165,C00,- THE D.VNDI I! i REPORTER 0 0 t-.> the debt of the State government but it might redu: local property taxes to some ex tent. HOME-LOANS Representa tive Frank Hancock, of the Fifth . North Carolna District, is going . to bat in Congress for more money to be loaned Tar Heel Home-Owners in distress through the Home Owners Loan Cor poration. Mr. Hancock an.i Senator Robert R. Reynolds got all hot and bother about the way the HOLC was being administer ed and secured a change o: manager.'. Now the money has about run out and little benefit ; will come to Tar Heels unless more iron men of the realm can be enlisted in the aid of delin quent mortgages.
