I :> ••••* v v v ■ STOKES TEACHERS ! MEET HERE TODAY! LARGE BODY OF INSTRUCT ORS GATHER TO ORGANIZE FOR IMPORTANT EDUCA TIONAL WORK TO BEGIN THIS WEEK ADDRESSES BY PROF. CHAS. PHILLIPS, OF THE W. C. U. N. C, ROY HEGE AND SUPERIN TENDENT CARSON IM PRESSIVE ASSEMBLY. One hundred and forty-three teachers, who are to undertake the educational training of Stokes county children beginning this week, gathered in the school building here today. At the morning session, addresses by Prof. Charles Phillips, of the Greensboro W. C. U. N. C., Dr. Roy Hege, of Winston-Salem, director of public school health for thi3 district and Superinten dent of Stokes Schools, J. C. Carson, were features of the oc casion. 'The theme of Prof. Phillip* was on the extension work being offered by the Greensboro unit of the University. Dr. Hege spoke on the import ance of guarding the health of the children. Superintendent Carson ad dressed the teachers on the work confronting them, calling atten tion to the demand for constant improvement. He strongly ad vocated the adoption of new and tried methods. It was a most notable assemb ly of youth and beauty, of age, of intelligence, character, and en enthusiasm in the great cause of public education. At the afternoon session, the teachers met in groups by grades and subjects to outline the work for the first two weeks. The groups acted under the direction of a chairman appointed by the Superintendent as follows: First Grade —Mrs. Bess i 3 Dowdy, of Sandy Ridge school. Second Grade Miss Ethel Sprinkle of King school. Third Grade Mrs. Eula Peck of Germanton school. Fourth Grade Mrs. Grace Taylor Stuart, of Danbury school. Fifth Grade Miss Vera Jones of King school. Sixth Grade Warford Spencer of Sandy Ridge ischool. Seventh Grade Mrs. Julia H. Gwinn of Walnut Cove school. English and French group Miss Mary Neal of Walnut Cove school. Mathematics and science R. M. Green of Germanton school. History T. L. Tolar, of Ger manton school. The next county-wide meeting will be held at Danbury school Saturday, October 4.
