THE DANBURY REPORTER. Volume 66 SEVERAL DEATHS NEAR KING MISS SUSIE JOHNSON, OF MT. VIEW PASSES-DEATH OF J. OLIVER LONG AT TOBACCOVILLE - OTHER NEWS OF THE KING SEC TION. King, Nov. 10 - J. Oliver Long of Tobaccoville died at Winston Salem Friday following a short illness. The deceased, who was a surveyor and who had spent his entire life in IForsyth coun ty, was aged 63. Surviving are the widow, three daughters and four sons. Funeral and inter ment was at Pleasant Hill Sun day at 2:00 P. M. Garland Gunter found a dead carrier pigeon on the highway near his home in west King last week. It was believed the pigeon was killed by a passing automobile. G. Ross Meadows, fine tobac co grower of the Ross Store section, was here Friday on business. Ralton Griffin, of High Point College, spent the week-end withhia parents, Dr. and Mrs. i E. M. Griffin. Lee Butner and Ab Kirbv of Tobaccoville and Roger Brann of Winston Salem have return ed from Atlantic where they spent a few days on a fishing trip. They report the catching of 400 pounds of fine fish weighing from 2 to 14 pounds. Some larger ones were hooked but they were unable to them, and this is no fish story. ( One of the Happy Day girls was here last week giving away crisp new dollar bps to pedes trians on the street who shr ap proached and who had a pack- age of Happy Day headache; powders on their person or at home or office- Samuel Brown has closed a deal whereby he will take over a service station at Union Cross. Mr. Brown will move his family there. I Mr. and Mrs. Daniel White, familiarly known here as "Hap py Dan* of Roanoke, Va., are visiting Mr. White's mother. Mrs. C. F. White on east Main Street. Miss Susie Johnson, aged 65, died at her home near Mountain View Friday. ' Thte deceased is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Harriet Lewis and Miss Ida Johnson. Two (brothers also survive. They are John Wade Johnson and Jimmy Johnson, all of the Mountain View com munity. The funeral service was conducted at Mount Olive Church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock and burial followed In the church cemetery. MARTIN The Fine Arts Club was de lightfully entertained on Thurs day evening October 29, at the home of Mrs. C. H. Martin with Mesdames T. D., Frank, and C. H. Martin as joint hostesses. Mrs. J. J. Taylor, the presi dent, called the meeting to or der and, after a brief business session, an enjoyable program of book reports was given. A paper on the book, 'This is my Affair' - Lola Kimel - was read by Mrs. N. E. Pepper and short sketches from 'The Place Like Home* - Beverly Nichols - read by Mrs. W. E. Joyce. Twelve members were pre sent, with Mrs. C. H. Martin welcomed as a new member. Prizes two entertaining contest were won by Mrs. Houck and Mrs. Wm. McCan less. The Annual Red Cross drive for membership will begin on Armstice Day, November 11 and continue through Thanks giving Day, November 25th. In Stokes county, Mrs. Sallie F. Pepper has been named Red Cross Roll Call Chairman for the county while chairmen in the various communities to so licit membership have been named as follows: Mrs. J.
