LENOIR REALTY &, INSURANCE CO. - y Lenoir, N. C. Proceedings pf Veterans Com mittee. The committee appointed last year to make arrangements for the Reunion of 1906, met on Tuesday at 1 p. m., according to the call issued some time ago, with Mr. L. R. Whitener in the chair and Mr. G. M. Yoder secre tary and at once proceeded to business. The first matter taken ui> was whether or no a reunion should be held at all, and this was most enthusiastically voted yes. The motion was then made and car ried to have it at the usual time, Saturday before the third Sun day, August 18th, 1306. The next question was the place at which the reunion should be held. Mr. L. R. Whitener read a most cordial invitation to the veterans to meet in the city of Hickory and enjoy the hospi tality which they proved them selves so well able to bestow. Mrs. F. M. Williams on behalf oft he business men of Newton extended an equally warm wel come to their town, and also sec T . onded it warmly by a request of the Daughters of the Confedera cy to meet in Newton, where such previous enjoyable reunions had been held. It was decided to hold the reunion in Newton this year, and to let the soldier body decide by vote at that re union, whether the one in 1907 be held in Newton or Hickory. During the past year among the many veterans that the Ca tawba Camp has been called up on to mourn, as having crossed over the river, there was one who stood pre-eminently at the head, the noble, gifted Major Jas. A. Weston, who was chap lain of the Confederate veterans of Catawba county, and in being next it was unamiously decided to invite Hon. W. A. Self oi Hickory to deliver the address or this occasion and Messrs. L. R. Whitener S. E. Killian were ap : pointed to wait upon both speak er and chaplain and notify then '.' • " f of their appointments. Messrs. N. E. Sigmon and W. A. Day were chosen officers of the day, and commanders of the veterans of each township were appointed as follows: Hickory, L. R. Whicener; Newton, P. A. Hoyle; Catawba, J. U. Long; Caldwell's, J. M. Wilkinson; Jacob's Fork, A. K. Finger; Mt. Creek, W. J. Holdsclaw; Cline's, Q. M. Smith; Bandy's; John Linn, and it was requested that the veterans of each township form that day by townships un der the leadership of the above married men. The motion was made and car ried that the veterans who wore the blue be invited to meet with those of the grey on this occa sion. Dinner will be served to veterans of both armies, their wives and widows. * The following committee to act on all business for the next year was then appointed. Hick ory township, L. R. Whitener, S. E. Killian; Newton, Geo. W. Rabb, P. A. Hoyle; Catawba, J. 1 U. Long, John Sherrill; Jacob's Fork, A. K. Finger, G. M. Yo der; Mt. Creek, W. A. Day, W, i J. Holdsclaw; Cline's, N. E. Sig mon, J. M. Arnett; Caldwell's, H. H. Caldwell, J. M. Wilkinson- Bandy's, Q. P. Clay, John Linn. It was then moved and carried that the account of this meeting be sent to all the county papers with the request of the commit tee that they publish same, after which the committee adjourned. L. R.
