Misses Precyous and Myrtle Hahn are spending a few weeks with friends in Columbia, S. C. Everybody takes a vacation - but father. Misses Belva Huntington and Mary Michael Chamberlain of Raleigh were here a few hours Tuesday, they had been spend ing some days at Catawba Springs. Abernethy and wife spent Sunday at Catawba. W. A. Self was in Morganton Monday on legal business. August 18th is the day set for the Old Solaiers Reunion to be held in Newton. A local freight was derailed here Thursday evening and was delayed a few hours. Mr. A. W. Dula, of Lenoir, was in town Friday on business, Mr. John A. Isenhower, of Conover, was a Hickory visitor last week. Mrs. J. T. Friday the 13th, Miss Frankit Martin gave a Birthday Party to about twenty-five friends at her home on the lawn. Fire-crack ers were hidden and Miss Eliza beth Holbrook wo* the prize, a little fire-cracker box of candy for finding the greatest number of fire-crackers. Mrs. Gamble's graphaphone also furnished amusement. Her Fifty-Eighth Anniversary, At the home of Mr. and Mrs, John Pierce, Petra Mills, o;i Sunday were gathered the chil dren and grand-children num bering 35, to help celebrate the 58th anniversary of her birth. The day was ideal and the time they had was ideal, while those good eatibles that loaded down the table will not soon be forgot ton. Mrs. Pierce received many and nice presents.
