Mr. Teles Miller arrived in the city Wednesday evening from the mountains of Western North Carolina. Mr. R. C. Buchanan left this week for Detroit, Michigan, and otier cites to visit the automo bile factories. He will be gone a week or ten days. Mr?. William Wheeler and t :ree children, of Washington, D. C., are spending seme time in t;e city with her sister. Miss Emily Wheeler. Hie Crouch Cabinet Company of Hickory has been incorpora ted. Capital $25,000 authorized, and $2,400 subscribed by M. G. Crouch and others. Miss Clara Bowles and Miss Esther Shuitz leave today for At lantic City, N. J., to spend a week cr two, after which Miss Bowles will go to Allentown, Pa., to visit Miss Sshultz. Mrs. Marvin Clay, who went to Statesviile for an operation a few days ago and was brought back home on account of the case hav ing gone too far, died at her home in West Hickory Wednes day night. Out of town guests were Mrs. R. A. Simpson of Rich mond and Mrsi M. M. Graham of Philadelphia. Mrs. T. A. Mot t and Mrs. J. B. Beard kept tfieir original places at the head table through the game and cut for the prize. The deck of cards fell to Mrs, Baard. Mrs. Hugh D'Anna drew the consolation, another deck of cards. Miss Mary Shu ford received a lovely brass bowl filled with fragrant sweet peas, complimentry to the bride-alect. A dainty luncheon was served by the hostess, as sisted by Miss Louise Jones. Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Shuford entertained eight tables of bridge Tuesday night. May 25, in hon or of Mrs. R. A. Simpson of Richmond, who is visiting her sistei, Mrs. T. A. Mott and Miss Mary Shuford, who is to be a June bride. Mrs. Bascom Black welder won the ladies' prize, a bud vase and Mrs. Mr. James Shuford was the lucky gentle man who won a pair of silk socks. Mrs. Simpson and Miss Shuford were each presented with lovely hand-painted bon-bon dishes. Those who enjoyed the evening were: Mr: and Mrs John Cilley, Mr. and Mrs. James Shuford, Mr. and Mrs. John Hatcher, Dr. and Mrs. Chas. Mrs. M. M. Graham of Philadel phia, mother of the hostess was present, and also: Mrs. Roy Abernethy, Mrs, John Riddle, Mrs. R. A. Grimes, Mrs. Hugh D'Anna, Mrs. Charles Menzie3, Mrs. James Shuford and Miss Lenore Sourbeer. Luncheon was served after the games. Mrs; Alex. Hall entertained the Limited Bridge Club Tuesday afternoon. May 25. Misses Vir ginia and Nancy Hall served punch on the front porch before the game. The prize, two crepe de chine handkerchiefs, fell to Mrs. C. M. Sherrill, and Mrs, A. Bourbonnais drew the consola tion. a deck of cards. Refresh ments were served and ended a delightful party. Mr& Eicanah Sigmon, aged 72. died at her home on Ninth ave nue Monday afternoon, after an illness of some months duration. The funeral was held from Holy Trinity Lutheran church Tues day morning, conducted by Rev. M. L. Stirewault, after which the interment took place in Oak wood cemetery.
