He was not eoafhied to his bed but a short time was a patient sufferer and seemed to be resigned to his condition. It was not my pleasure to have a long acquaint- with bim, but when I did learn -to- knew hiui I found iu bim a rerfect gentleman. He was on tbe side of right, and was found at his post of duty. Hh was converted when a young man aud a student at tbo University of N. C. under the min istry or preaching of Rev. Teese dale, D. p., of the Baptist church and became a member of the Pres" byterian church Ue was a faith" ful wotker and teacher in the Sun day schools. MaKiDg ine isiDie a special study be was amply quali fied to teach and the Sunday School sustained a great loss when he died His family had the utmost conS-; dence in his piety. which is strong evidence of his upright walk. A short time before he died be said he was ready and not afraid to die. I was his family pas'or and my visits to bis home were quite frequent and were always pleat-ant to me. Dr.. Lawiog will be greatly missed by bis many friends. May the Lord bless his family io their sad be reavement, comfort them by tbe abiding preseuce of bis Holy Spirit and sustaiu them in this gteai loss which we feel is his eternal gain.
